Hey guys! I have been enjoying my HDHomeRunPrime with Media Portal for a while now and have had no issues since the initial setup.

Unfortunately I have not used it in a few weeks. I came back today and tried to watch TV as usual- I found that Media Portal will freeze for a minute when selecting a channel or clicking "TV On", and then say that an unknown error occurred.

When trying to use HDHomerun Prime QuickTV I can watch most channels but I have a lot of issues. Some specific channels (premium and normal) will freeze completely. Others will play for a while then freeze, or the video will freeze and the audio will continue. Others will drop the volume randomly and I have to reload the channel to get the volume to turn back up. i never had these issues before updating MediaPortal and the Filters.

Under the MediaPortal TV Server configuration I get nothing when I scan for channels. In addition, the channels that are there from the original scan all have the Red Circle with a "T" in it, rather than the green they used to show.

When I click scan for channels it starts out with "out of band service information" and hangs there for a while before failing.

I cannot think of anything else that has changed. Please let me know what I should try. Thanks again for all your help!

    Hello Krieger

I found that Media Portal will freeze for a minute when selecting a channel or clicking "TV On", and then say that an unknown error occurred.
Could you post log files please:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/16_Support/3_Forums/2_Log_Files

Follow the instructions for reproducible problems.

When trying to use HDHomerun Prime QuickTV...
Can't speak for QuickTV but AFAIK the only things that might connect MP and QuickTV are:
    • the PRIME itself
    • system environment and network connectivity
    • codecs

Under the MediaPortal TV Server configuration I get nothing when I scan for channels. In addition, the channels that are there from the original scan all have the Red Circle with a "T" in it, rather than the green they used to show.
    T means TV.
Red means encrypted - normal for the PRIME.
    Green means not encrypted.

When I click scan for channels it starts out with "out of band service information" and hangs there for a while before failing.
"Hanging" for a while is normal - it takes a couple of minutes to scan. Need more specific information about how it is failing including log files in order to assist further...

    Regards,
    mm

    Thanks for the help!

    The log files are attached.

I understand the hanging is normal- my apologies. Here is the exact message I get after scanning:
out of band service information...signal locked, no channels found
    Total radio channels, new= 0, updated = 0
    Total TV Channels, new=0, updated=0
    Scan done!

I'm sure it is something simple I have forgotten- Thanks again!

First, a tip: you can (and probably should) disable the DVB EPG grabber.
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...figuration/TV-Server_Configuration/05_DVB_EPG

It won't get you EPG. When enabled it will constantly use your tuners to try to grab EPG. Disabling it is no loss, saves power, and reduces wear and tear on your tuners (hopefully helping them live longer).

Here is the exact message I get after scanning...
Sounds like TV Server is not able to receive UDP network traffic from the tuner. That's supported by other evidence I see in the log files. I suspect you've got a firewall configuration issue.

Yep. Something simple. I hate Windows Firewall. Not sure how the settings got changed- disabled it and most of the issues are gone.

I also disabled EPG grabber- thanks for the tip!

I did notice however some of my premium channels are failing to load. Showtime and NFL Network for example work fine- however Cinemax and HBO are not loading.
Inside MP when I click these channels I get a hang, and then
    "Program/Channel not found"

Should I re-scan or re-post logs? Thanks again for your help.

    Me too. ;)

I'd be really surprised if they're not copy-once protected (=> not able to view them outside WMC).
Can you view them in QuickTV and/or were you able to view them in MediaPortal in the past?
Do you have a tuning adaptor (TA) for switched digital video (SDV)?
    Who is your cable provider?

If you can view them in QuickTV then please try a rescan, and post logs (same as before) if that doesn't fix the problem. If you have a tuning adaptor please also check if there are any log files from the PRIME that you could post.
If you can't view them in QuickTV it means they're copy-once so they won't work in MP, and no point in posting logs.

I note you can see the list of channels available in MP (ie. copy-freely) by going to the following address in your internet browser:
    http://<PRIME IP address>/lineup.xml?show=unprotected

To see all channels in your lineup:
    http://<PRIME IP address>/lineup.xml?show=all

The channels that are in the "all" list but not in the "unprotected" list are the ones you can't get in MP.
(According to your logs your PRIME IP address is 192.168.1.7.)

I can't seem to view them in QuickTV either- though I do think I could before. I can't remember.
I have no clue what a tuning adapter is so I am assuming I do not have one.
    I have Verizon FiOS

Under the "show unprotected" link I notice Cinemax and HBO- however unlike the other channels here they list "URL>http://192.168.1.7:5004/auto/v901?C...CP1&DTCP1HOST=192.168.1.7&DTCP1PORT=8888</URL"

Where the channels I can view in MP just say "URL>http://192.168.1.7:5004/auto/v870</URL"

Is something blocked or is there just no work around for this? I wasn't sure if the "CONTENTPROTECTIONTYPE=DTCP1&DTCP1HOST=192.168.1.7&DTCP1PORT=8888" meant anything or not.

    Thanks again!

Okay, I think that would be a sign they're DRM protected. If you wanted to double check the PRIME is working you could try configuring WMC to see if you can get them that way. Success in WMC + fail in QuickTV + fail in MP = DRM protected.

I have no clue what a tuning adapter is so I am assuming I do not have one.
About all I know is that they plug into the PRIME via the PRIME's USB port. If you haven't got anything except the cable feed plugged into the PRIME then you haven't got a TA.

I think from the from the "CONTENTPROTECTIONTYPE=DTCP1" you have another sign that those channels are protected. DTCP is:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Transmission_Content_Protection

In other words I'm sorry to say there's no workaround. If you really wanted those channels in MediaPortal you'd have to use a set-top-box + capture card (eg. Hauppauge Colossus) + blaster, probably with some kind of HDCP stripper too. It's silly but it's the only way.
