ive been having really bad luck with my µatx motherboards not containing a spdif bracket so im in the market for a cheap 5.1 or 7.1 soundcard that can output all sounds on spdif (passthru for dts, ac3 etc, and plain old 2.0 for 2.0 stuff)

one ive been recommended (ill be using win vista 32bit) is the terratec aureon

any other suggestions?

My mother board didn’t come with a SPDIF bracket ether and I was not going to pay the ridiculous price (some ware around $80) they wounded, so I just made one for less the $2.

It’s very easy to make. You only need to solder 2 wires to a standard RCA socket (

)

If you tell me what make and model your mother board is I’ll be able to tell you exactly what to do.

I’ve attach 2 pictures of my mod.

    hi,

    had an spdif out on my mobo, but no bracket too.
    bought a toslink TOTX178, gnd, signal and 12v to it, et voila, ac3 over optical spdif...

    i know its easy to do, but its alot easier to order a soundcard than to run around buying the parts :)

    if i wanted to make it myself, i would have already
