Someone should write a mediaportal process plugin and an adroid app for one of these cheap wifi tablets that are coming out.

There are heaps of ~$100 7" touchscreen tablets with wifi running android 1.6 They would make an excellent wifi remote for mediaportal.

    see here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4OCItW6ecc
    eg. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.42070

I imagine these tablets will get a lot faster over the next 6 months or so...

    Click music

    - Scroll through all the albums with cover flow
    - Hold down your finger on an album and a dialog box comes up
    - Play album now
    - Insert album into playlist
    - Add album to end of playlist
    - Tap an album to open it
    - Hold down a song and a dialog box comes up
    - Play album now
    - Insert album into playlist
    - Add album to end of playlist

    Click movies

    - Scroll through all the movie covers in moving pictures database
    - Click on a movie to see movie details
    - Click again to play movie in mediaportal

    Click live tv

    - Click EPG
    - scroll through the epg to select programs to record or to change the channel
    - Click Channels
    - Epg mini guide comes up so you can choose a new channel

    ... etc etc

I know that iPIMP is available, but something with cool eye candy specifically designed for android and 7" screens would be better.

Even having access to iPimp on one of these would be great....

Not sure how good they are though so am holding fire a few more weeks as there are a few more powerful tablets on the horizon.... especially if you want to view recorded or live tv etc....

Let us know if you actually buy one cause if they work out okay I'd get one for my technofobic mum just so she has e-mail and facebook.

I'll probably just get an android phone, was gonna get the galaxy-s, but i heard some bad reports about the camera. I reckon by the time android 2.2 / android 3.0 comes out there will be some really great android tablets/phones, and hopefully some good+cheap ones too.

But I do agree that we need a nice flashy front end..... even if it's just browser based....

i think ipimp might be browser based and it introduces a lot more lag. advantage of browser based is that it works on lots of platforms, but android application might be faster with direct communication over wifi. Also browser based can't have animations eg. coverflow (unless it's flash based, which iphone doesn't do, so might as well just stick to android only app)
