My first test of this software was on my 2Ghz laptop, and later on a 1.5Ghz laptop (my kid's).

Tasks like moving through the menus, and populating lists from share drives (and FTP) often took 15-30 seconds, and were sometimes delayed.

I don't yet have a remote control, but I have to say clicking NEXT, or NEXT PAGE and seeing NO indications that my request was taken was irritating. I would click the keys multiple times not really sure if it was taken the first or second time.

Maybe include a popup clock icon or box indicating that the software has accepted the request and is working to provide it.

I understand that many people have GigE connections to their share drives, and are probably using 3Ghz media PCs and don't see much in delays - but I suspect there are a lot of people trying to force older machines to use the software.

Good idea. I have a 3GHz p4 with 1gig of ram, geforce 6600GT and still occasional hickups occur, somtimes 10s of seconds. Having an indicator would be nearly as good as getting rid of the hickups themselves.

Having to get out the keyboard, pressing ctrl-alt-del to kill MP then reload it does not impress my friends ;-)

But then, no other application can do the things that I do with MP equally well....

I believe the functionality is in the program and it can/could be seen with a few skins in a few circumstances, but yes, it has been slow to be incorporated into all aspects of the program.

shawnwc, what graphics chips are used in these notebooks?
They should be DirectX 9 capable for best MediaPortal performance.

30 seconds for a simple menu navigation step are way too much even for a non-DX9-system, though, so there has to be another reason.
Maybe you should start a thread in the support forum. And, of course, make sure you have the latest Win XP SP2 patches and drivers installed. :)
