Codec advice (1 Viewer)

I'm looking to improve my MP installation by adding a better video codec.

Currently just using a default Windows XP + MP installation, but having problems with the video aspect being correctly recognised (understand from other postings that this is normal with "basic" codecs).

Do I need to purchase a full "video" package, or would a free codec such as DivX 7 (not the pro version) do what I'm looking for?

I don't watch HD content (yet, until they start Freeview broadcasts!) so that's not a requirement.

Just use SAF (search the forum). Free, and works great .

Thanks for the link, looks interesting.

One huge problem though, the SAF Installation procedure instructions quote

- install MediaPortal 1.1 ALPHA (or newer)​

I (and guess 99.5% of the MP community) are only using 1.0.x.
