Is it then a case of converting the .ts file if I wish to edit it in the future?

You can edit a ts file exactly the same as you can a mpeg file, most software treats ts as mpeg anyway, videoeditor and memcoder both work with ts, as does mcebuddy, but for that you need to change a couple of bits, especially MP's default setting for TVSeries recordings, which makes a folder that mcebuddy cannot at this time work with, picture to show setting for folder removal on series recordings.
