codec for hd content (mkv-files) (1 Viewer)

What codecs do you guys use for playing high definition content (.mkv)?
I configured MP to use CoreAVC 1.6, but now about 50% of my high def files are unwatchable.

And it seems like hardware acceleration is impossible for .mkv files,
or does anyone know a solution for this?

I use CoreAVC too, at version 1.7, and have yet to have a problem playing HD media in the mkv container. You can use FFDShow as an alternative, but CoreAVC is regarded to be superior.
