Hi, so I basically had issues with poor playback so I upgraded to a SSD system drive and aa GT430 graphics card. I uninstalled SAF4 and the LAV filters, then reinstalled SAF6. I have had varying degrees of sucess but the more I mess with codecs the worse my playback becomes right upto not being able to get the channel to open anymore.. So I have uninstalled SAF6, reinstalled it (again selecting that I have a AV receiver attached and that it is not HD) and not touched anything except set the codecs in MePo in the hope someone can advise me before I screw things up.

I am using 276.42 Tesla drivers for my GT430.I connect to my AV receiver with spdif.

So fresh install and in MePo I have set in the TV codecs section

    Mpeg Video ffdshow video decoder
h264 video ffdshow dxva video decoder
Mpeg AC3 audio ffdshow audio decoder
    AAC divx aac decoder
    DD+ ffdshow audio decoder
Audio renderer default direct sound device

I have looked in the ffdshow dxva video decoder and h264 is ticked for dxva codecs. Here is what I find..

    SD channel
    25-45% CPU usage
3 dropped frames in 6000 drawn (I think the drops happen when opening the tv guide)
    flat graph
    plays ok

    HD channel
Takes ages to open the channel, when it does there is no sound. If I change the audio stream to the mpeg one and then back to the AC3 stream audio is ok.
55-60/65% CPU usage (same before and after I select the audio streams to get the sound back)
    1000 dropped frames in 2500 drawn :/
    graph is everywhere

Can anyone help me diagnose the issue please, the more I tinker the bigger the hole I seem to get in :(

    Thanks!

    ---------------------------

Uninstalled SAF, got the latest MPC standalones and registered the MPC video and MPA audio filters. Seems much better and GPU is definately working now as CPU doesn't go above 30% for the most part.

Not exactly sure what SAF is good for now.. Certainly hasn't helped me play anything back.

I'd also use Filmerit and the registry cleaner in ccleaner to clean up any mess left over from the uninstalls (just in case).

As you are running Win7, why not try MS DTV-DVD video decoder for H.264 - it's one of the best DXVA decoders out there (Cyberlink Video Decoder is also very good, in my experience).

For H.264 HDTV I use LAV Video with CUVID enabled, mostly because it handles UK Freeview HD (terrestial) better than anything else I've tried.

For MPEG2 SDTV I use FFDShow video decoder with the Deband filter enabled (to reduce the banding and block noise) and output settings as the attached image (to get hardware deinterlacing to work).

Hi Tony, thanks for the reply.

In the end I settled on a combination of MPC / MPA / CoreAVC and MS DTV. Things play right but I was experiencing some channels still wouldn't tune or if they did there was ano audio. I stumbled on this thread https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-hd-sd-channels-100978/index5.html#post833169 and used the Tsreader.ax you posted. It appears now all my problems are fixed :) What I was presuming to be codec issues looks to be the same as the guy who started that thread.

So thanks for fixing that! and I will have a play with the codecs now that I know there was another underlying issue which is now solved.

Incidently, will the Tsreader issue be fixed in the next version of MePo. I'm now super paranoid about installing any MP updates now its working how I want it finally :)

There is a bug in TsReader v42d (which can cause occasional black screens when TV is started), so I suggest you use the latest -> here <-

The fix should get into MP eventually, but we have to be careful that we don't break something else, so it can take a while (and more testing) to prove that a bug fix is OK and should be incorporated (and I need to find the time to transfer the fix to the 'standard' TsReader codebase).

    Hi Tony,

V44 is working. I do have real big problems with the codecs though and I don't know how to track the problem down. My current position is if I use anything other than PDVD11 for video decoding, I get a mediaportal crash. If I rerun mepo tv server seems to have crashed too as it can't connect to the service and needs a reboot. I'm a bit lost now.

When I do have PDVD as decoder, video seems ok but audio is always out of sync, sometimes very slight but always seems just that little bit ahead of the video. I am using Microsoft DTV-DVD audio codecs. Also no matter wether TV starts initially on an SD channel or a HD channel, there is no audio, I hae to channel chage to get audio back...

Hard wrk these codecs :/ but I suspect I have an underlying issue with something else in my system..

I think you may be right.....

You need to post some logs - run MP like it says here (using the first option) - Log Files - MediaPortal Wiki - and generate a set using PDV11, then another set with a different video decoder (MS DTV-DVD maybe) so that it crashes (or you might have to use the third option after it's crashed to collect the logs post-mortem).

Its funny I put MPC video back on and it wouldn't crash :-/ driving me nuts. So part way through reinstalling Windows. Going to just get MePo back on and start again from there.. What drivers should work with nvidia? I noticed the PDVD drivers have a dxva enable option but is dxva just for ati or have I read that incorrectly somewhere?

As you are wiping the slate clean (probably a good idea), if you feel nervous about the Quadro/Tesla drivers just go for whatever is the current GeForce set. As for codecs, start with MS DTV-DVD (and check it works properly), then add LAV filters to handle other formats.

Just make sure its the 290.53beta as all 280 versions are broken concerning video, or just use the one that came with your card.

Thanks for the tips appreciated. I had the 280's! Just finished windows updates so I'll put the betas on now.

Regarding LAV, should they work with *everything* video and audio wise?
