I was recently given an old Compaq D510 e-pc and i thiught i could use it in my cabin (i live and work on a passanger ship) as a sort of self-contained media pc for watching DVDs and other media on the network.

Unfortunately the PC only has an Intel 845G Integrated display, and the response from the Mediaportal interface is fairly sluggish. Is there any way to improve this?

Specs are:
Windows XP sp3
1GB DDR333 Ram
64mb Shared Video Ram
2.4 Ghz P4
NEC DVD-RW Slimline Drive
80GB HDD
10/100 Lan
Integrated Sound

Any advice on how to get the most out of this old box would be appreciated

Thanks

I also recently had a SFF Compaq PC which I was trying to get to work but no luck. The integrated graphics card was too small.

I would think you need any small PC with a PCI slot and use a separate card.

What I landed up buying was a HP DC7100 from Ebay for £41 including delivery (£16 for PC and £25 delivery). I had an old PCI graphics card a PNY 6800 with NVidia and it works very well.
