Hi guys,
I have been browsing the Internet until I became dizzy from all the different hacks, terms, setups, bugs, problems, etc. setting up a home IPTV solution from DVB-streams.
My scenario is as follows:
1 TVServer (dedicated server)
2 MediaPortal clients.
X IPTV-clients (getting back to that)
2 DVB-S sources (one Polish provider and one Danish provider (Conax encrypted))
I would like to provide IPTV to the household (altogether 5 TVs (right now)).
I would like to be able to watch/record enough channels at one time to satisfy the need throughout the house. So in theory 5 simultaneous streams at any given time on the Polish provider, since I am the only dane in the house, the Danish one needs to only satisfy maximum 2 (one for watching and one for recording).
I would like to provide 2 TVs with a MediaPortal client (done already) and the rest of the TVs I would like to simply give a simple set-top-box, ie. IPTV-enabling the TVs.
My questions are:
How do I do this? The best way? cheapest, without becoming too cheap?
Does anyone know a cheap basic IPTV Set-Top-Box (for a good old analogue monster of a TV with SCART)?
What equipment do I need for the TVServer? 2 DVB cards or more?
Would it be better with some dedicated external DVB/TS splitter-box of some weird kind right before the TVServer?
Which DVB-S cards are the best to buy for this scenario? (Must have a CI-slot (or CAM) for me to provide it with a CAM for the latest Conax cards)
Which CAM would be the best to buy for the latest Conax version?
I am aware that I probably need to multicast the TS-streams. There is also the problem of transponders on the DVB-source? If all 5 TVs are watching from one transponder, no problem, right? If they are watching from 5 different, problem, right?
My 2 Sat-providers will be:
Cyfra+ from Poland (Canal+ in Poland).
Canal Digital from Denmark (Canal+ in Denmark).
Both of them use DVB-S/S2 with MPEG-4 and there will be about 20-30 channels from each. How many transponders are they using you think?
Phew... I know that this was a big one with a lot of potential issues... that's why I ask all you guys, the experts ;-) .... Maybe someone in here has already set up such an installation.
It would really be great if I could put together such a setup, since I'm sure that many others have similar problems for "digitalizing" the household without having to have 5 different remote controls for each TV ;-)
