Composite Analog Video inputed from another receiver (1 Viewer)

I have been reading several possible solutions regarding hooking up composite analog input, but they all refer to scanning in channels. My setup merely uses my composite out of another Dishnet digital receiver into the analog composite video input of my ATI all on one 600 tuner card.

All these solutions say to "scan in channels".

I don't need to scan in any channels since they are already scanned into the dishnet receiver's channel list and the dishnet receiver plays fine independently of my ATI card if plugged into my TV only.

Hence I just need to see the Dishnet receiver's video in MediaPortal. The ATI's native software lets you do this just by selecting "composite 1" as the input but it has other drawbacks and I would like to use media portal.

In other words I'm just passing analog video to the card and using mediaportal to display it. No channel scanning.

It's coming up with "no video software encoder found" error, but I'm not even sure if adding a channel is the right way to set it up since I'm not scanning in channels, but rather just using mediaportal as a "monitor".

Thanks!

Well, you have actually two problems, the first one is easy to solve, in the tv channel setup you can add s-video channels, this will also do composite. Like i said, that's the easy part. Much more complicated is the fact that you use a software based tuner which is most likely not supported by MePo.
Do a search for software based tuners first, then try to solve your composite problems.
As a first, you could hook up your receiver via RF out and set the output to channel 3 or 4, then do the channel scan.
But i don't have a lot of hope, especially since MePo is already complaining about an unknown software encoder.

Thanks for the quick reply. Think it's gonna be more trouble than it's worth since it already works with the ATI wonder software as an analog composite input. I live in Charlotte NC, so guess we're both Bible Belters..hehe

Thanks!

Just say "Thankya Jesus!

Just to confirm: BigBoyDale was indeed missing software encoders. The thread pointed to by spachti could definitely have been helpful. MediaPortal requires you to have software encoders (for analog cards that don't have hardware encoders) - without them timeshifting and recording are not possible. You can read more about that -->here<--.
