Hi all,

I'm hoping someone might have a similar setup. I just put on Media Portal and am really enjoying it. So far the only problem I'm really running into is the TV portion.

I got the TV Server Engine running, and am able to connect to it via local client and remote client. The video that's feeding it is currently coming in via RCA jacks (into the Hauppauge card), source being the satellite receiver.

Ok, so my goal/desire is: Get it so when I change channels in MP it will change channels on the Dish receiver rather then trying to change channels on the hauppauge. This also leads into - is there a way to get a guide listing for the channels on dish? I know I was able to do this with MS Media Center (which, aside from that feature set, I really didn't like media center with its restrictions, especially since I happen to like using TheaterTek to play DVDs).

Any tips would be MOST appreciated.

So to sum up - I have video and audio feeds via RCA into the Hauppauge. I can view the current channel on my dish receiver, I would like to be able to change channels using my MCE remote in MP. I would also like - if possible - to get a guide listing for dish to make channel changing easier.

Thanks in advance!

-Tony

I have the same goals that you have. So far I have been able to get the a guide working in Media Portal using a program called mc2xml and the xmltv plugin in the tv server configuration. You can download the mc2xml program from the following site.

hXXp://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/MC2XML

I am still working on getting the blaster to change channels on the receiver.

There are many users (including me) that change channels on external receivers using the IR-blasters that come with the MCE-remote, as well as get the EPG-data for all the channels. You just have to search the forums....it contains all the help you need. …:D

    Now to answer your questions….

For changing channels using the IR-blasters, you need to install and configure the “IRServer-Plugin” , once configured it would automatically change the channels on any external-receiver.

To get the EPG-data for your channels…this is different depending on which country you live. I personally use XMLTV files, but its only because there is no EPG-data supplier in my country and the only source available to me are XMLTV-files. I propose you ask someone that lives where you do, or you can play with some of the EPG-plugins that are available and see if they don’t already cater for your country…
