Hi everybody,

I was looking for something that replaces MCE and I am very happy with what I found.

I installed MediaPortal several times, no TV-Server installed, but I cannot figure out the TV Guide. Is somebody here who is willing to give me some simple set up/configure instructions on how to get this to work? I am using normal Cable set-up, no HD, scanned for channels, even re-named them all, but the TV Guide keeps saying "no data available".

If somebody could help I would be very thankful.

Thanks,
Firstflight

Hi there:

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I assumed, based on MCE, that the TV Guide will be downloaded automatically during the channel scan process. I was not aware that you have to have programing skills. I looked through the documentation you attached and it looks pretty painful. Any advice on how to get started? Is there an easier way of using the WebEPG? I do not understand the xml file. Does this need to be created for every desired channel? Would it be easier if I installed the TV-Server (without taking advantage of installing additional clients)?

Thanks again.

You should not have to edit any XML files, I have never found a channel that was not already included.

Start webepg-conf.exe, import your channel list (from the tv setup), and then for each channel map it to one of the predefined channels in WebEPG.

    Hi again,

ok, I uninstalled and re-installed again, this time with TV-Server. I can't locate the webepg-conf.exe in the mediaportal folder. There is a WebEPG folder with two sub-folders in it: Channels and Grabbers. None of them include the *.exe, only a few xml files.

I assume this is where my problem lies, might be real stupid...

Thanks for your patience and support,

    no problem!

webepg-conf.exe is not in the webepg folder, but should be in the main mp programs folder, together with webepg.exe (the actual grabber). if it is not there, then i think you mp install has gone wrong, and i would advice to reinstall.

    Hi pbb:

Ok, I made it to the point where I am able to execute the wepepg.conf. After I imported the channels, I selected the first channel I wanted to grab EPG information for and clicked the ... buttons on the right side of the window. BTW, I only renamed one channel the proper way (CSPAN) to test first (maybe that is the problem?).

The Selection dialog showed up, but I only have the option to have "websites" selected, not "websites" and "channels" as described in the manual. I then selected "www.imdb.com". Intersting fact, my CSPAN channel now is displayed as "15 - CSPAN@central.net" on the right site next to Channel and right above the Grabber details.

Then I went ahead and run the WebEPG.exe.

I launched MP and still no TV Guide. Any idea of what I could be doing wrong? Do I leave the settings under the MP Configuration/Television as they were set as default???

I appreciate your help. This is a bigger project as I thought it was. Are you actually one of the developers?

    Thanks,
    Firstflight

    Hi Firstflight,

No, I am not a MP developer, but I try to help out writing documentation. Thank you for pointing out the outdated information in the WebEPG documentation, I will update that.

You have come quite far now that you have found WebEPG.exe and executed it. Did you check if there is a TVguide-writing.xml or TVguide.xml file in your application data folder?

After TVguide.xml is written, MediaPortal can start with reading the data from the XML file and formatting it for display in the EPG. After you've started MediaPortal, it may take a minute or two before the data is visible in the EPG.

    Hope that helps,
    Peter
