Configuring My Music Album Shares (1 Viewer)

My directory structure for music is Music/Artist/[tracks][album/tracks] To clarify: in each artist folder there are album folders that contain the songs, but also contained in that artist folder are songs that are singles, that don't come from any album.

The problem is that in MP the only way I can see both the "singles" and the "albums" is in the Shares view. But I have been unable to figure out a way to modify the Shares viewing-properties (icons, lists, etc) to do what I want it to--my Shares view also doesn't list things alphabetically, plus it doesn't respond to the letter inputs from the remote.

SO: Is there any way to modify the "shares" view to set things like what I can do with "artist" or "album"" I would like to be able to change the "ViewAs" settings of a Shares View

    Hi

What you are describing does not sound right, you should still see all your songs if they are taged correctly. What I do with my singles is tag their 'Album' detail with the word 'Singles' then all the songs show up under a new album called 'Singles'.

    Hi

Everything is tagged correctly; they appear when the track is in 'now playing', plus foobar2000 recognizes them.

I'll try to be more precise with the problem:

    1. If I set it to "Shares" I cannot adjust the viewing properties of what is displayed like icons or list. I think this is because I simply can't find where to adjust that stuff, it doesn't seem that 'Portal is doing anything wrong.

    2. If I set it to "Artist View" I can adjust what I see displayed. And so I configured the Artist View to be sequenced as "artist" then "album" then "track." The problem is that after selecting an artist it will display the albums fine, but if there are any songs present, it will show the albums in addition to a single track icon and '[]' displayed underneath it. I thought this was because my Artist View is set up to display the album tags in at this screen, and if no other tag is present, there is no way to set it to display something else, like %artist%.

I could tag all of my single tracks as you recommended, but it would take a really long time, and I don't want to have to parse through all my music to change tags. The ideal thing would be to change the settings of how "Shares View" displays information.
Alternatively, I would set up some sort of "$if(x,x,y)" function (like in foobar2000). Or just up my album view so that if a track's tag is not present, other fields are searched instead.

    Thanks for the help,

OK I understand your problem; it is probably because your singles don’t follow the same directory structure as your normal albums.

I'm trying to help you here, but I really cant think of a easy solution for your problem...because "Shares" are supposed to represent directory-structures and not to replace all the functions that the "Artist", "Album" etc give you.

Have you played around with all the "Music-Database" functions available under the MP-Config-Utility? How about creating a new folder called "Singles" under every artist-folder and moving all the singles for that artist into it, and then select the "treat all files in a folder as an album" under the music-database options? I think that could work for you with as little effort as possible....

If this does not work, then I have no other ideas left...sorry.
