Configuring MyPrograms to launch exe (1 Viewer)

Dear all,

I'm a new user of Media Portal, and so far I am very much impressed with it's functionality and capabililtes. I have one question though, I am trying to configure MyPrograms to launch executables, so far unsuccessfuly. I went through the documentation several times, and did some trial and error myself, but no go, When clicking on the link, I drill into the directory, nothing is launched :? .
Lets take a use case where I have a program called x.exe under c:\program files\xdir\ (the directory contains other executables in addition to x.exe). What should be the following values in the plugin configuration:
Launching App:?
Startup Dir:?
Source Type:?
File Directory:?
File Extensions:?
Startup using shell execute (checked or unchecked)?

I would appreciate your help.

BTW: I'm using latest version of MP (0.1), I noticed the the documentation GUI is a bit different from the current one.

you're right, this is not very intuitive, but here's how it should work:

The key is to use the "filelaunch"-mode.

For this, you need the following steps:
1)
create an app item with:
Launching App: <the title you want in the menu>
Source Type: "Filelauncher (manually edited items)"
Startup using shell execute (checked or unchecked) CHECKED

2)
save it and in the app list, select the new item and click
on the "FILES"-button in the bottom right
=> a filelist dialog appears

3)
click NEW to define a link to your exe, minimal data is:
TITLE: <menu item text>
FILENAME: <path to your exe with eventual commandline params>

you can also add more here, but this is the minimum to get it going.

repeat 3) for all exes you'd like to see in myPrograms

It doesn't work!!

I have tried so hard to get my programs to launch an exe, but it does nothign, even when I use the filelaunch mode... I have follow the manual and suggestions, but it just does not work at all. Here are all the datails

MP 0.1.0.2

F2 / My Plog ins / My Programs / Edit / New program

Launching App: SimpleBrouser
Source Type: "Filelauncher (manually edited items)"
Quoters around file names CHECKED (and have tried it UNCHECKED as well)
Startup using shell execute (checked or unchecked) CHECKED

I save it and then select it and click
on the "FILES"-button in the bottom right
=> a filelist dialog appears

I create a new file and i imput this information:

Title: simplebrouser
Filename: C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\simpleBrowser\simpleBrowser.exe

save it, and restart media portal

then, when i go to my programs, and click on Simple brouser, i get to a directory with another file name simplebrouser, but when i chick on it, nothing happens... i mean, really nothing

I have tried the same procedure even for other exes, abd for a non exe file, such as .doc file but it does not work either...


Am I doing something wrong, or you think it is a bug in the appliction?

I don't have a MP running here as I'm not at home, but here are some wild guesses what might be wrong:

I create a new file and i imput this information:

Title: simplebrouser
Filename: C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\simpleBrowser\simpleBrowser.exe

save it, and restart media portal

Try to put the whole filename string into quotes!
This means:
"C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\simpleBrowser\simpleBrowser.exe"

I'm quite sure the spaces are disturbing the plugin!

If you create a shortcut on the windows-desktop for this app and look its properties, windows usually also adds quotes, if there are spaces in the filename, right?
This is the way MP treats filenames.
So if you get a shortcut working, make sure you use exactly the same filename in MP as in the shortcut properties. If this doesn't work, then you have found a bug :?

Other thing:
If "nothing happens" when launchinga program, MP usually catched an exception that should be visible in the MP log file. Can you check this and post the exception text? (<MP>\logs directory).
