I currently set up Windows XP Pro on a new HTPC and would like to purchase a remote control for it. My old system, I bought a MCE2005 remote which works great. Hard to find them now but I do see alot of Windows Vista and Windows 7 MCE remotes around the stores in my area. Are these working well with MP and would they work for me even if I am running Windows XP? Is this possible? If not I am not sure what else there is out there unless I order something from ebay.

Thanks for any tips.

The MCE remotes from Ebay seem to do the job, although there are quite a few clones out there it seems. I have two coming from Hong Kong, which look 100% like the original, but I cannot say yet if they are.

Are you saying it no longer works :(

Above may be of some future use.

Microsoft MCE Remote Control USB IR Receiver Win7 Vista on eBay (end time 10-Sep-10 08:57:17 BST)

£4 postage, whatever that is in Canadian, take it you still have receiver, but believe the one supplied also uses the M$ ehome driver, above has the advantage of the teletext buttons, ie red switches to fullscreen playback, blue, zoom modes, yellow subtitles on\off, green have linkled to sleeptimer plugin.

Well, my two extra remotes arrived from Hong Kong, via the UK - and they are damn near perfect!

Slight difference from my German MCE remote in that they dont have the coloured buttons at the bottom, having CLEAR and ENTER buttons there instead, but like the German MCE remote, they work straight away with MP, and are recognised by XP as the same thing. The build is as solid, the only thing missing is the Microsoft bar code on the back.

    You've got to love China!

This one is also good. I have two of them, and they have been going strong for about 2 years. This model has all the buttons, and I've re-purposed some of them, e.g. to adjust picture zoom/aspect ratio.

As I recall, to use it with Win XP you have to do a registry edit, look in the 'egg reviews for how to do it.
