Confusion over Blu ray playback (1 Viewer)

Hi, I've been configuring Media Portal to take over from an old xbmc mainly due to high definition but also because of live tv and being able to use a computer on the tv.

Anyways, I have a ATI 3450 graphics card which is hdcp compliant but my television (Samsung DLP HLP series 720P) does not have hdcp compliance and only has DVI inputs. I have a receiver that is hdcp compliant with hdmi inputs though and I can run the input through there if necessary. I've also read that cyberlink power dvd will not output a signal better than 540P (Pal though I am in the U.S) unless there is an hdcp hookup to the monitor.

My question is, what are my options for getting a 720P signal to the television from the computer? Is there a hd player that can send one? Am I mistaken about PowerDVD not sending a full resolution signal?

I do copy my Blu-ray disks to a hard drive so that I won't have to switch them (I view this as the main advantage of using a media server). I do this with AnyDVD HD so I think it removes some restrictions. I copy the disks one-to-one.

Not sure if any other information would be required.

Thanks a lot,

Tom

That is disappointing. Is there a way to get the high definition signal to the television with the disk in the drive?

Thanks,

Tom

With Mediaportal the only way to play back BR/HD-DVD movies (the complete disks with menues and so on) is to rip the plates to the computer, then create iso-files with imgburn or a similar program.

Then you point MyFilms to that ISO-file.

When you select play in MyFilms this will mount the iso in daemon tools and if youre computer is configured correctly this again will autolaunch PowerDVD/WinDVD/Arcsoft TMT and start the movie.

Thanks Karakas. That is very useful information and much better than what I've been doing which is using the Blu Ray plugin then opening the movie directory manually. This will let me use the remote :)

It turns out that I have the version of Power DVD (it came with the drive) that will actually play directory structures of Blu Rays but only does stereo sound so I'll have to upgrade at some point. I believe any version of Power DVD will play the iso.

I only use Arcsoft so I can't confirm if that is correct, I think I might have read something about them removing "support" for isos aswell, but I might be mistaken.

Also as a sidenote.

If you use just a remote (I use the MCE remote) then it should be easy to close the BR-program aswell, just press the "i" button then choose exit. Atleast that works for me with Arcsoft. (Might have to install IR-server for this? Not sure.)

Thanks again Karakas.

There is a boatload of things that I need to do and configuring the remote in a user (me)-friendly manner is coming up hopefully soon. I'm glad that there is a (relatively easy solution)

The main thing I'm working on now is trying to get media portal to automount the Bluray ISO's from myMovies. Once the ISO's are mounted then PowerDVD (or TMT) can load them automatically. I know that you said to use myFilms and my other searches of the forums yielded the same info but I was wondering if its possible to use myMovies with blu ray ISO's (and have it mount the ISOs) or am I sol.

Since I already have a large collection of DVDs on hard disk (in folder formats) and don't have them catalogued in ANT (and it seems as if there is no easy way to automate the catalogue entry), I'd rather not move over to ANT though blu ray playback is important enough to me that I would if it is the easiest option.

Thanks again,

Tom

I haven't tried using MyVideos yet, but I take it it's the same there. Just install Daemon Tools and enable it in the MP configuration and you should be good to go.

But if you have DVDs in iso-format aswell you might want to configure Windows to no do anything when a DVD is inserted.
