I am trying to control my STB with a serial IR blaster. Is this possible? I've searched and searched but can only find information on controlling a STB with USBUIRT.

What sort of IR blaster is it? Can you give us a model name or a website link or something?

There is plugins that currently support USB-UIRT, MCE IR, and direct serial connection. But if you can get me some information on your setup I might be able to whip up a plugin for you, or integrate support into an existing plugin ...

    Cheers,

Thank you so much for the help. It's just a standard IrDA RS232 serial port adapter, Actisys ACT-IR200L. I had previously purchased it to use with MythTV but decided to use MediaPortal instead. It is pretty widely supported in the MythTV community so I know it should work in MediaPortal in theory. Reality I know can be something altogether different. :) I have a Dish Network 311 receiver to control unfortunately it only has IR. Life would be simpler if Dish would just put a serial port on the back!

I've spent the last several days struggling to find out how to make the serial IR adapter work with MediaPortal but have not found anything. I've searched and searched but come up with nothing. Am I missing something obvious?

Hmm, if you can find some software that supports this sort of IR setup then maybe you could interface it with MediaPortal?

This sounds like the sort of IR device that would work with WinLirc, am I right?
