"Copy Artist to AlbumArtist when empty" option .... (1 Viewer)

I have just started to use MPTagThat to clean up all the mp3 tags and I have selected the option "Copy Artist to AlbumArtist when empty" in Settings -> Tags -> General.

However, I can't figure out how to get that option to work - are there some other steps that I need to perform to get the value in the Artist field to be copied into the AlbumArtist field?

I have each album in its own folder, so I assume that when I open the folder and the tracks are read into MPTagThat, the empty AlbumArtist fields would be filled automatically with the data in the Artist field - is that correct?

Nope just filling them on Save.
so you need to change at least one tag value to mark the files as changed.

But i agree with you. the option should fill it when reading in the files.
and mark the file as changed, when the artist value was copied.
will change it for the next release

Ah, OK. Just tried that and it works....

However, if the only change I need to make to the tag is the AlbumArtist field, then this option doesn't help. So, I am looking forward to the next release ...

would be good if this happened on rename files as well.
i have a renaming expression that uses <o> (album artrist)
if this field is blank, then i get blank bits in the filename, even with "copy artist->albumartist when empty is enabled"
