Could MP just use the directshow merits to play a video file? (1 Viewer)

Cause right now, I can't figure out how or why it selects what it selects for playback.

I'd just like it to behave like when I try to render a file in graphedit - yet it tries to do something else. And I end up not using the parsers / codecs I want to use. This is quite frustrating, seeing a file being processed perfectly in mpc or in graphedit, and not getting sound, or not using the proper video filters in MP.

So I'm the only one bothered by this? that for some movies I need to actually open up explorer & play them in Media Player Classic rather than having MP used for all my sources?

Hi zeflash,

I always could fix my codecs problem using Directshow codec merits.
Is your system clean ? I mean how many duplicate codec do you have ?

Well, I believe my problem is that ffdshow isn't properly set as a postprocessing filter.
Let me explain with examples.
h264 source:
- with graphedit or zoomplayer, coreAVC is used as the decoder, then ffdshow is taking the ouput of coreavc as it's set to handle RAW, then it's sent to VMR
- with MP, if I don't set ffdshow in the postprocessing list, only coreAVC is used.

So you tell me, just put ffdshow in the postprocessing list. Well yeah, in that case the graph is the same, but for h264 sources only.

Cause, if I'm decoding a divx or xvid source, then ffdshow is supposed to be used as the decoder - but with MP it's ALSO added as postprocessing. Therefore I have ffdshow twice in the graph, even if I tell it to be only present once in the graph. Somehow MP is overriding this, probably by forcefully creating the graph.

That is what I consider to be a problem. I could have other codecs to decode all kind of media, and just use ffdshow as postprocessing, but then what's the point? I would be stupid.

i have exactly the same problem as you zeflash, but with x264 source files and this is really frustrating.

graphedit, WMP, MPC render the file using the corect filters. FFdshow, AC3, VobSub.

But NOT MP. MP keeps using CoreAvc,AC3,VobSub.

Even if unregister or unistall CoreAVC nothing happens. Its even worse. MP dosent playback x264 files even if FFDshow is more than capable to playback them.

I am really frustrated and i really dont have a solution for it.

Well, I'm using an external player now for playback :(
My problem now is about VMR9 & tearing. I switched video cards from ATI to NVidia and now have tearing all over the place.
Given that from what I read in other posts MP devs won't put in configuration for the user to choose their own renderers (I will use haali renderer) I don't have any options.
