I certainly agree with AllenConquest - get a CPU that runs "cool". Especially if this is a dedicated HTPC that will go into the lounge room.My CPU is an old P4 1.80 cooled with a Zalman copper cooler. My wife complained about the noise, so I replaced the PSU from an Enermax to an Anetc Phantom (fanless). The only fan that runs is the Zalman (on lowest speed setting), and it's quiet (so is wife !!)If I had to build again, I would go for a mobile CPU like Allen (just a case fan???awesome...).But then again, check out this article at (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article169-page1.html) - Athlon 64 could well be a good choice (the new Venice Core runs even cooler). And note, the use of Athlon 64 does not mean you need to have 64-bit software. If you run 32-bit Windows, then all your software can be 32-bit.
