I got a new video card, a ASUS EN9600GT (Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT). Since I installed it, the MediaPortal always crashes while playing any video file.
Sometimes the first file works, sometimes even not that one. The screen just starts to flicker black but the sounds plays normaly. Mostly after a few secconds a blue screen comes and the computers turns off.
Before the new card I had a Geforce 6600 that had no problems with MediaPortal at all.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Maik

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I see that you have a ASUS card. If you have installed the "ASUS Splendid" thing - remove it.
This gave a friend of mine different problems, so I guess it's worth a shot.

Oh, and DO include logs - always :)

    Thanks for the quick response,
but I don't have (or had) that program installed. :-(
Sorry I forgot to add the log file...
I have seen in the logs that DirectX seems to throw a "not enough memory exception" what I think can't be correct because I have 2GB ram.

Thanks for the hint. I tried it (uninstalled Nvidia drivers, boot in safe mode, run DriverCleaner, reinstalled newest NVidia drivers) but it didn't change anything. Still got screen flickering, normal sound for some seconds, than crash. :-(

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks again
    Maik

I tried it (uninstalled Nvidia drivers, boot in safe mode, run DriverCleaner, reinstalled newest NVidia drivers) but it didn't change anything.

Your logs show the "not enough memory" exception AND a problem with your DirectX filters.

Since the drivers to the GF6600 and the GF9600 are different (even though they are distributed in the same package), I would suspect that your DirectX installation has become corrupted.

    Try this:
    1) boot your system and press F8 to get to the windows boot menu. Select the option that allows you to start in safe mode with VGA driver (soory, I don't remember the exact wording of the option).
    2) Once booted, go to "Control Panel" / "Add / Remove Programs" and remove ALL of the NVidia drivers and utilities.
    3) run "driver cleaner" to remove any remaining traces of the NVidia installation.
    4) reboot your system.
    5) install the desired nVidia drivers.
    6) reboot your system normally.
    7) reinstall DirectX 9.0c or later.
    8) reinstall and codec packs you wish to use.
    9) make a backup of your MediaPortal configuration files.

This should get you back to an operational, and stable, system.

    Hi!

I tried all what you said and made some progress. Now the videos can be played but a new problem occurred: Everytime I start or stop a video file the whole computer fully freezes for about 20 seconds and than continues normally (same happens if MediaPortal is started, exited in windowed mode).
I debuged MediaPortal and found out, that this freezing always occurs if base.OnResize(e) in the D3DApp object (so, System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnResize(EventArgs e)) is called. What could happen here?

BTW: I got rif of every other error, so I do not get an error.log anymore, so I only atached the MediaPortal.log.

    Thanks for any help

    Damn!
Just installed Windows XP SP3 RC2, because I hoped this would help me in any way. After the reboot I started MediPortal and got the same problems as before: filckering -> BSOD -> computer shutdown.
Don't know if this has anything to do with the SP3 or if it just was the reboot, anyway now again no video can be played.
BTW: I think I never mentioned before: All videos play fine using just the windows media player or similar. I only have the problem with the MediaPortal...

I attached the log files of my last crash, there you can find an error: "VideoPlayer9: Failed to render file -> vmr9"

    Any ideas anyone?

    Greetings

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think I got it done! In the configuration program in "DirectShow Filter Control" and the VMR 9 settings I disabled the "VMR 9 exclusive mode" and for now it all seems to be working perfectly again...
Of course I'm happy that it all seem to work again but I really would like to know why my new card doesn't seem to work with the "VMR 9 exclusive mode". Could perhaps someone give me some information what exactly this option does?

    Thanks
    Maik
