crazy problem with freezes in MP (1 Viewer)

Post this problem within another thread with other problems and get no answers. Maybe it's better to make a new thread here.

This problem makes me crazy ... so any help or tip is welcome ...


This problem exist on every client in a multiseat setup! So I'm sure it is a network problem or related to anything going on on the server side.

I've periodic stutter/screen freezes (every two seconds for a short moment) in text scrolling or f.e. while I view my pictures with ken burn effects. It is also there if I press shift + ! The white vertical bar stops for a short moment. (In BasicHOme screen or any other menue). I've 35 fps then but the screen is set to 50fps. In the moment I stop the TV-Service on the Server (Multiseat setup), the stutter/freezes are gone and the fps on the client increase to 50 fps.

I disable all firewalls so this is not my problem.

If you need more Info or any logs, plz let me know. I use MP since 3 Years now and found a solution for each problem (also for many friends) ... but this ...

Hi,

A failing HDD did this for me.

I even re-installed on the same drive before I figured that one out. It was actually an issue with the SATA port on the motherboard.

Looking in event viewer showed a periodic DISC error with a yellow exclaimation mark.

Replacing the drive and not using this SATA port made everything hunkydory for me.

I don't suppose this is the case with yours, but may be of some use.

Also had something similar when I accidentally set my TV to something like 25Hz. But that was just plain obvious!

Did you change the hdd on the server??

All my three clients have this problem ... so i can eliminate the hdd's on client side.

My TV's are set to 50 HZ (Plasma an LCD TV) and PC TFT ist set to 60 Hz, should also not be the problem.

Yeah, was on the server. I have since replaced everything but the GPU and remaining HHDs on my server.

I was experiencing really bad freezing whenever I used more than one client on any of the BBC large bandwidth channels. This was fixed by spending MORE money! Oh well, you have to have a hobby. I also put in a wired infrastructure complete with 12 port switch, this was before realising that the onboard LAN port on my server's old Motherboard was experiencing technical difficulties...

I now run 3 clients (all XP) and a Vista based server, which is also a single-seat setup for our main TV/family internet hog. I have only occasional problems since this rebuild, mostly saved by the occasional restart of clients/server.

In my experience, my problems have generally been caused by different things than everyone else, but I really feel for your crazy feeling as I have been there many times!

... I've a dedicated Server
one 1 TB 7200rpm Sasung HDD (file HDD)
and one new 1,5 TB WD EE 5400 rpm HDD (System and file HDD)

I'm pretty sure the writing speed (WD) is not good enough to stream f.e. one high bit stream to one client and a HD stream to another ... so I'd to change the system to a faster HDD. But unfortunately I'm also pretty sure that is not my problem i told here in the first post.
