Im trying to rip my Blue Ray disc to my harddrive and Im looking for the best way to do it. So far, everything points to mkv files, however I cannot for the life of me find a user-friendly way to do this.

Can someone tell me how they create mkv files from raw Blue Ray disc? If not, can you point me to a guide where I can find out how to do it?

Thanks, I really appreciate the help.

MKV is just a container used to wrap around video/audio streams. Inside that MKV file is (most likely) going to be an h.264 video stream and some type of audio stream(s). You're probably familiar with Xvid files that have the extension AVI. In that case, you have an xvid stream inside an AVI container. It's the same concept with MKV files.

What you're going to have to do is compress that Blu-Ray with something like x264 (an h.264 encoder). There's a good guide here - Blue-Ray / HD-DVD / TS / DVD / AVI -> TO H.246 using MEGUI - VideoHelp.com on using MeGUI to do that.
