Album covers with asymmetric resolution get cropped after download from the web. E. g.:
    Original file from the web:
    Resolution: 600 x 528
    mbid-b3546348-d250-4a3c-a304-b58410211c2e-15151151886.jpg

Converted file in album thumbs folder:
    Various Artists-Sunshine Live, Volume 19L.jpg
    Resolution: 600 x 600
    Various Artists-Sunshine Live, Volume 19L.jpg

Can FH resize the images and, if necessary, add transparent bars at the borders to keep the aspect ratio on scaling?

There are settings like thumb resolution, compositing and so on but not on how images are resized.
MediaPortal doesn't crop images, see attached video. At the track change first the file embedded cover is shown, then the cropped FH album thumb.

I would highly appreciate if you improve FH to not crop album thumbs.

How? If it is a thumbs, then I want to be sure that it will be a square, and not a rectangle or a rectangle inscribed in a square with fields. And I do not want violations of proportions. Crop the only option.

There always is a solution. ;)

Option 1 (preferred): You can add transparent bars to the empty spaces on resizing. But then the image format would need to be PNG because the JPG format doesn't support transparent colors. Look at attached example.
I've replaced the FH JPG album image with the resized PNG image and set the original name (Various Artists-Sunshine Live, Volume 19L.jpg). It works fine - the album thumb is displayed not cropped and not distorted in the Playing Now screen.

Option 2: Just use the non-quadratic image (in this case 600 x 528 pixels) as it is. This is what MediaPortal does with embedded file covers. But then album covers get slightly distorted. I've successfully tested this option as well.

The proportions are out of order. In this case, it is not critical in another it will be critical.

I am on vacation, and at the moment I do not understand a foreign language well, even with an interpreter. Excuse me. But I described the current version of the work of FH.

Ah, OK. :) Enjoy it, have fun!
Probably we'll find a solution for the cropped album thumbs after your vacation.

With MediaPortal's method for album thumb resizing all thumbs are not cropped and I see no issues at all. The ones that are downloaded by FH get cropped when the source images are not quadratic (different length and height). That looks strange and information gets lost.
Can FH use the same resizing method for album thumbs as MediaPortal? At the end it's MediaPortal to display all album thumbs so why not doing the thumb resizing in a unified way?
