Hi

a company startup is close to launch a new electronic multimedia device. due to complexities in the previous media platform the idea is to use mediaportal, personalised to the specific use. the company urgently needs a team of people to finalise the product. best would it be to have a couple of persons staying in presence at the company site for the next 2-3 months starting immediately. after that period, online work at distance can be foreseen. there is the chance - if you like - that one person may become the future CTO.
it is a tremendous opportunity to be the creator of a revolutionary product.
The location is Italy.
pls send you interest/ideas to sando2all@yahoo.it or respond here

thanks

I would hate to loose valuable developers of a fantastic open-source project like MediaPortal to the interest of commercial corporations. I also dislike the idea of selling MediaPortal as part of a product. Are the MediaPortal code licensed somehow?

Hi disore, thanks a lot for your frank point of view! first let me point out that mediaportal is a plan (and i'm new to it) as we are currently stuck on MS....
second: the product is a device, not a sw. in such a way mediaportal would be a piece of the product (and not even the central one..). That way the idea is to sell a product that makes use of MP, not selling MP as a part of a product. Does it make a difference to you? do you mean that you prefer that commercial enterprises must only use commercial software? last: it is not that commercial corporations are stealing developers from a fantastic open-source project. In my mind it is the other way around: a commercial corporation is asking the community if might be of help somehow, sometime.
thanks again becouse i did not think about your POV.

MediaPortal code is licensed under the GPL. Companies are free to install MediaPortal and provide support for it on machines they sell. This is not a bad thing. These companies have a special interest in making sure that MediaPortal runs glitch-free on their platform. Because of the GPL, companies are required to share the changes they make to MediaPortal code. This means "free" bug fixes for the rest of us. The team already has such "contacts", and code fixes are implemented thanks to this.

That said, I am definitely not interested in the offered job.
