I have seen MP at its best, just for some reason over time and several updates, the workability of the application has suffered and I am stressed out with the fact that I can't even seem to get one full recording in a week. In fact 8/10 recordings of late have failed.

OK, I don't know how to go about this, but these are the problems that I am suffering from and I'm hoping that someone will recognise a fault. It's worth saying that I have not done any upgrading or driver changes to cause this.

On MP startup, Windows reports "Media Center Receiver Service" error, listing ehrecvr.exe being the problem. How to I cure this? Is this somehow related to MP issues? It seems to slow down MP and cause freezes if I don't acknowledge the error while MP is starting up. I don't use MCE if that makes any difference. It doesn't seem to affect the memory or use of resources.

Sky Three (UK DVB-T) constantly goes black, but with stuttering audio or I get a 'no signal' error. Generally no other channel gives me this problem and I do have 3 TV cards installed - that is unless MP gets confused and when changing channels whiles recording I do sometimes get "no signal detected'

I cannot and have not been able to play DVDs for almost 6 months. The HDD light comes on and I can hear the DVD-ROM drive working, but nothing (even with changing codecs - currently using Dscaler, which I also use for my tv/videos and appears fine). This then locks up MP (mouse/keyboard inactive) and am unable to mimimise. Only opening the drawer releases the freeze. I can play them independently with ZoomPlayer, Media Player10 & WinDVD7. I cannot work it through these as external players from within MP.

The latest problem is total unrealiablity of recordings. Whilst the hibernate function appears to work and wake-up, the scheduled recordings are failing or stopping during this process. Most recordings appear as 5.48KB files. I have had some record about 300MB (first 10 minutes or so) and yesterday one recording only had the last 40 minutes out of an hour recording. I have also experienced MP putting windows into hibernation during recordings.

Whilst talking about recordings, I do see major audio sync problems when several cards are recording at the same time and I am watching another channel. However on playback, the file is perfectly sync'd and indeed while recording.

Also the EPG will now lock up if you try and scroll across a channel. It is rather difficult to describe, but it will generally lock out after 5 seconds and the video window freezes. This is regardless of whether you are using the EPG or it is just stationary. I have never suffered from this problem in the past. This sometimes extends to MP updating the EPG from the XML file.

Changing channels is quite slow and once changed, it plays and then after 3 or 4 seconds it kind of hangs/stutters for about a second and then it's ok. This is seen when playing back a recording too.

Thanks guys for any info you can throw my way. Apologies for the long msg and I'm sorry if the list looks like a whinge, but I am lost for answers!
Regards,
Darren

    Hi,

this really sounds as if something is screwed up in your system. My shot would like NLS: do a new isntall of windows. :?

But before that you might give us your logs:
    /Team Media Portal/MediaPortal/logs/

You can put them into PasteBin.

And please use the Support Template, especially for your DVB cards.

    Flip.

You could try "Start->Run->services.msc" and disable the media center services / prevent them from autostart.

    Does this station broadcast AC3-Audio?

that is unless MP gets confused and when changing channels whiles recording I do sometimes get "no signal detected'
Does the picture re-appear after this message?

Sometimes Windows gets borked after unsucessful tries.
Please set DVD video decoder to MPV do a reboot and try again.

My system doesn't have the problems you're describing (thankfully! ) but I can say that the channel changes, while quick, do exhibit the "after 3 or 4 seconds it kind of hangs/stutters for about a second then it's ok". What I'm trying to say is that this happens on an otherwise perfectly operational system so you might want to disregard it as a symptom of your system's ill-health.

    RTV, thanks for your advice.

You will be pleased to know that cancelling the MCE services has cured the MP startup errors and boots quicker too.

Changing to the MPV filter, I am now able to play DVDs after all this time. MP doesn't appear to like using an external player or resuming play from the same disc, but I am happy playback has been restored.

In the UK, DVB-T does not transmit AC3 only stereo to my knowledge. Only DVB-S has that ability.

Your last question...No the picture does not return after "no signal detected" message appears.

Thank you so much for your advice and troubleshooting. My very best wishes to you.

Well this is caused by Microsoft's StreamBufferEngine and should be considered "normal".
btw: I've even seen a Medion DVB-S receiver stuttering a sec after channel change ;)

The "no signal" issue is currently investigated by MP team.

If your audio still gets out of sync try the MPA audio decoder!

    Hi Flip,
Here are the posted logs as requested.

The first two are from events during the day (when I was not using MP, although I believe some recordings were put in to test the system).

The 3rd & 4th logs are whilst I was trying to play a DVD. Its worth adding since the advice from rtv, I am unable to play DVDs again. I have just been trying a couple of rentals. Would this make any difference (maybe macrovision or the like)??

I know how well MP can work and look forward to any advice. I think in the long run, it might be best to reinstall from fresh, but I'll wait for a response.

    Thanks for your time/help.

For the DVD side of things, the logs seem to indicate a lot of errors with your DirectX. I guess you could try reinstalling DirectX and see what happens. You can also try running "dxdiag" from the run command. This will run diagnostic tests on your system, but usually doesn't report any errors. Can't hurt to try though.

I am with the others on this though. I would probably just start over with a clean install...
