Ok.. Im having a real nightmare getting this remote to work with mediaportal fully.

Basically I have the latest mediaportal with no remote plugs or anything like that. I have brought a Cyberlink MCE remote control which comes with a USB IR dongle.

Ok, So in mediaportal I have selected the option to use microsoft MCE remote.

Now, directional keys work, as does the OK key. The volume up and volume down keys work, but the channel up key and channel down key also controls the volume. The power toggle key seems to work ok and sends the system to sleep and wakes it up. The number keys all seem to work fine too.

No other key does anything in mediaportal.. Only one key works which is RED and that opens PowerDVD!!

So, I'm entirely frustrated. I went through and reprogrammed my Harmony manually learning each key one at a time from the original remote (the original remote does the same by the way). I'm totally lost on what I'm supposed to do now.. What are my next steps to making this work??

Any help will be greatly appreciated, my karma has taken a real hammering tonight :(

    EDIT

Right I think I sorted it via using Generic HID. However, I have the Harmony and I believe MCE remote to be my best solution for getting all the buttons working, so I guess my question is, what do I select in my Harmonys Device setup to get the proper MCE remote. I had selected Media Centre PC -> Microsoft and got one that wasnt right mapped to my remote :(
Whats annoying me is I can add LOADS of additional "keys" via the onscreen menu, so I was hoping to make shortcuts on this to various things in mediaportal and not just be stuck with the normal keys on an MCE remote. Is there anyway of making use of this feature of the remote too??

Any harmony users able to help please?

To configure your harmony remote to "emulate" the cyberlink remote:

    1) Log onto your Harmony remote account with the Harmony software
    2) click on the "devices" tab
    3) click on "add devices"
    4) Select "Computer / Media Center PC" as your device
    5) Select "CyberLink" as your manufacturer
    6) Enter "PowerDVD 7" as the model
    7) Click "next"
    8) Click "Next"
    9) click on "Update Remote"

Your remote will then have a "Media Center PC" entry under devices that will work with the CyberLink receiver. If any buttons do not work at that point, you will have to program the Harmony remote with the CyberLink remote. (under "Settings / Learn IR Command")

The harmony feature you need to program "shortcuts" is called activities... You can add an activity and program button presses to navigate through MediaPortal.

Ok, I have my remote mapped onto the harmony. I have General HID selected in MP configuration and I get partial control..

Now I have loads of buttons (which have been mapped) like,

    myMusic
    myRadio
    Replay
    etc etc

Now, in my harmony remote software I can name these buttons on the screen to anything I like, so I could set one to INFO or HOMESCREEN.. But how do I map this remote button to the correct function in MP?

Basically, I have a button on my remote that currently does nothing in MP but is sending an IR code. How do I map this IR code / button press to F9 or ESC for example?

Is this possible because in "mapping" for general HID device I dont see Info / Homescreen or F9 / ESC. Does that make sense?
