Hi,

I will try MediaPortal because WMC is slow, hangs some-times, after standby it don't regognize my tv card (FloppyDTV DVB-C) etc.
But the only internet connection with the pc is a mobile broadband dongle, with a data-limit of 1 Gb.

I'm wondering it's enough to do good work with MediaPortal.
How much data used MP for normal running?

Gr,
Johan

the pc is a mobile broadband dongle, with a data-limit of 1 Gb.

You will definitely need this if using TV on a wireless network, 1gb will be wiped out pretty quickly if you have lots of movies\tvseries, once the info is scrapped for those it will drop.

Of course any of the streaming video plugins like onlinevideo's will munch away at 1gb quickly.

Sorry, i'm a little bit uncomplete in my story...

I'm connected at digital cable TV at the floppydtv, but at this cable don't come my internet.
So, i works at the moment at a stand-alone pc with WMC and without internetconnection. This works fine exept the slowly wmc.
Now I become a dongle for the internetconnection, so i can update my pc and tv-guide.
I only used mediaportal for watching TV (from cable) and record it with the tv-guide. No streaming or online films (indeed thats takes a lot of data...).

    changes that the case?

Thanks for answering and sorry for my bad english.

Even if you use a single pc for watching\recording TV, this relies on network protocols, if you have no permanent network, then you need to fool the pc into thinking you do have one,
thats why I linked to the MSLoopback adapter, hope you understand wireless of any kind suffers from drop outs, which cause the tv stream to fail, even if everything is on one pc.

What worries me is the fact that WMC is very slow, would it be possible to supply us with your pc specifications because MP needs more resources than WMC.

Slow WMC: it's the TV-guide wich is very slow. When I browse through the channels and programs in the guide, WMC is very jerky.
And when I record my program and the computer comes out stand-by, the tuner will not be found. I must restart, and again, and all kind of tricks before my tuner will works. I don't understand why this happened. So I think: perhaps Media Portal will be better in this way.
All the other items are working good.
    My PC is properly up-to-date. Core2Duo P8400, 4Gb, NVideaGeForce9600GT.
Not the newest, but good working for this job.

    Thanks for answering.

    AW: data

Your Setup is more than enuogh for MediaPortal.

As already mentioned, use the MS-LoopbackAdapter to "connect" your Tv-Server internally as Single-Seat.

To save Bandwith on your UMTS-Connection i can mention the following: Use the internal EPG (=TV-Guide) from MePo only, it will grab the data from Cable-TV-Channles directly and needs no online-connection. Don't use these Plugins/Services or configure them carefully to not load "much as can" online-data and/or not to often update data online: Infoservice, Weather, FanartHandler, TVSeries, MovingPictures, MyFilms, trakt, Follow.it ... and so on.

    regards

My tuner is a FireDTV BDA DVB-C (MCE) (title found in Device Manager).
THe signal is digital TV (Delta, The Netherlands) from cable.

    Hi Johan,

another hint from my side. In the tvserver config, you can put a wait time before the server connects to the tv card (delay befor tv card detection) see here: General - MediaPortal Wiki . You should set some seconds here. I have 10 sec. at the moment. I had this problem with the pc of my friend. The tuner (Floppydtv) was not recognized reliable. After setting this time, everything goes well.
You should also first set the card to the "stop mode" see here: TV Servers - MediaPortal Wiki

    Hope this helps
