I seem to have a number of (related?) database problems during setup.

On the screen to select which database server I want to use, it says SQL Server Express is disabled, with a link "Learn here why". The link just points to MediaPortal Wiki - MediaPortal Wiki. That is no help. Why is SQL Server Express disabled??

The last option on that screen reads "SQL Server is already present and will be used for TV-Server". Oh? I haven't installed SQL Server. I didn't find any signs of it being installed either. Whatever, I select to use SQL Server.

The install overview screen doesn't say anything about SQL Server being installed or being required. So I just let it install all required components.

During installation of TV-Server, a Setup Database Connection window pops up. I fill in the default password MediaPortal, and click Test. Now an error window pops up: "Connection error: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. [snip] Error: 26 - Error loading server/instance specified".

Closing the Setup Database Connection window continues the setup. Then when starting MediaPortal, it takes about two minutes "Waiting for startup of TV service..." while nothing happens. After that, the startup continues. While using MediaPortal, I am getting regular messages "Error - Connection to TV service lost". (Which I guess is wrong -- I have a strong feeling it never had a connection to the tv server to start with...)

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Hi clarkey2r

Could you be a little more specific - ie. do you mean you have the problem with "Error - Connection to TV service lost" coming up all the time, or do you have installation problems with configuring the database connection correctly.
