MediaPortal Version: 1.0RC2
MediaPortal Skin: BlueTwo
Windows Version: Windows XP pro SP2
In MediaPortal Configuration, the various sections that work with folders (Movies, Music and Pictures) all have an option "Default View" for each defined folder. The options for Default View are List, Icons, Big Icons, Album and Filmstrip.
First things first; there is heavy mixup of terminology here, so my observations may be because of me becoming confused! MP Configuration talks about "Default View" for each folder, and besides that allows to configure several "Views" for Movies and Music (not for Pictures). These two uses of the word View seem to be unrelated. Within the MP interface, it seems Layout is used instead of the first use of View. However, Layout has the possibilities List, Icons, Big Icons, Big Icon List (instead of Album, only available in Music, and not available in Folders View) and Filmstrip.
I am assuming here, that the Default View in Configuration, should correspond to Layout in the interface.
Now for the eror. Your selection for Default View in Configuration has NO effect. On first use of MediaPortal (not 100% certain here...) Movies and Music always default to List, and Pictures to Filmstrip. On subsequent use, the last selected Layout is reused. Also, the Layout setting for one folder is always used for all other folders also.
For testing, I've added several folders to both Music and Pictures, all with different Default Views. But inside the MP interface, all folders were displayed with the same Layout, the last one used on a previous run of MP.
Defining Views (Layouts) in the Views section of Movies and Music seems to work better. Whatever is defined here under ViewAs (again yet another formulation), is also used inside MP. With one exception; wherever Album view (only available in Music) is configured, Big Icon List layout is used.
I realize this bug is a non-issue for most people, since you only have to select your preferred layout once for the folders view inside the MP interface and that choice is remembered afterward. (Though it does mean you can't have different layouts for different folders, but I guess nobody needs that anyway.) I just bumped into it trying to write the documentation and trying to figure out what every option does...
Can anybody confirm this bug, or tell me I am totally on the wrong track?
PS, coming back to the point of mixed-up terminology: where Configuration talks about Folders, the MP interface talks about Shares. And of course in Configuration there is talk about Movies where it is called Video in the interface. Just more inconsistencies...
