Detection of USB HDD in shares (2 Viewers)

Summary:
It could be very useful to allow adding shares to mp using the storage label or other identification methods than just the drive letter.

Description:
Right now, when i configure mp and add the shares where my movies are stored (for example, but this also applies to pictures, or music also) i must select my drives using the drive letter. But the problem is that i have some external USB HDDs and every time that i connect them it takes a different drive letter... so i think that a possible solution is to allow to specify the label of this device instead just the drive letter... I've all my music collection in a external USB HDD, and i've added it as "My music collection' in Music Folders, the associated drive letter is F: but, another day this same device could have G: letter...

I've mapped my USB HDD as a single drive letter, so it always shows up as F:. In your situation, had another device taken the F: drive mapping?

One (possible) way around it is to use Disk Management so that the USB HDD gets assigned the same letter each time.

1. Plug in the USB HDD
2. Go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management
3. Select Disk Management (under the Storage link)
4. The drive should show up in here as "Removable" (ignore the top entry, this would be your boot HDD)
5. Right click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
6. Highlight the drive letter and press "Change"
7. Change the drive letter to what it should be

Now this should take effect from now on. I make this change at work for USB dongles that must run from a certain drive letter and it works most times.

Give it a go, and all should be good.
