Digital and Analog tuners sharing same channels and EPG? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I'm posting my message here in general talk. I couldn't find anything related in the manuals and on the forum about somebody having attempted this before. It's not really an issue I have just yet, but I'm going to start messing around with this tonight. I'm wondering if somebody else has already tried this and came up with a positive or negative note on this.

I want to use both my FloppyDTV C/CI (dvb-c) card and my Hauppauge MCE500 for the same channels and possibly share the same EPG.

So far, I've setup my DVB-C card and I use the cable supplied EPG for my recordings. It's working perfectly.
I still have my old analog Hauppauge MCE500 lying around from my old mythtv setup and I'm wondering if I can use this card alongside the DVB-C card. My wife can easily decide she wants to record 3 shows simultaneously and still watch another show on the telly:eek:. However I doubt she wants to run through 2 EPG's, 1 for analog and 1 for digital.

Is it possible to configure the TV Server in such a way the EPG's will be combined?

Thanks Juppe,

I'll look into it. It'll probably mean I have to drop the Cable EPG for the Analog/webepg.. If that's the only way, that'll be the way to do it :)

Have a look at this, the instructions are aimed at NZ users but it is usable elsewhere. Basically, and this on top of the standard DVB-C card setup. you could merge the DVB-C and analogue card together and map the DVB-C card for EPG only.

That said maybe you just need to merge the two channels together, and it will tune off both cards and use the cable EPG. Either way, I'm pretty sure you can do what you want here.

    Thanks for your reply.

I've managed to get it working, give or take a 2 / 3 reinstalls of the mediaportal application and database :)

I finally managed to master it using the DVB-C epg only. I had a few complete fails scanning the analog tuners on the Hauppauge PVR 500MCE (Not Hauppaugs fault, just the analog signal quality), both being on the same board and coax cable came back with different scan results and different channel names.

What I did was the following (bullet listing style):
    * setup mediaportal to use the DVB-C card
    * Scan the channels (dvb, always the correct scan) and epg
    * manually add channels for analog
    * Map the manually added channels to the correct analog tuners.
    * combined the digital and analog channels by using the digital channels as primary.

After that I threw in the MediaPortal Web Interface (MediaPortal Web Interface) and logo's.. and finally I have my digital + analog combined in a single EPG.

Only downside is that my Digital EPG contains only 3 days of data.. and the analog webepg should be able to fetch 7. But that doesn't matter. My wife accepted the 3 day EPG, so I'm in the clear :p
