Using latest RC1 release of Media Portal (Not the Nightly builds)

System Specs:
Shuttle SG33G5 (Intel G33 chipset)
Intel Core2 Duo E6750 (2.66ghz Dual Core)
2GB OCZ DDR2 800
Intel Onboard GMA 3100 HDMI out
Realtek Onboard HD Audio SPDIF Optical out
Seagate SATA NCQ 400GB (AHCI Mode)

I am running vista and using the vista codec pack from free-codecs.com

Everything is up to date and the system tests rock solid using all manor of benchmark/diagnostic tests I could think of. The only time I have a problem is with .avi files (xvid or divx). DVD's, mkv, ts, and all other types of video files I have tried to play work without problems but divx playback has an annoying pause and catch up hitch every 10-20 minutes or so. I have played the same files using Media Player Classic and they work fine there. I have Mediaportal set to high priority.

Any ideas or suggestions? anyone else with this issue?

I just installed a new Nvidia 8600GT 512MB video card in hopes that this would perhaps solve the problem, I figured that maybe the onboard intel GMA wasn't capable of smooth video playback in this instance but I am still having the same issue. All video plays back normally with the exception of .avi files, divx or xvid encoded.

Any ideas anyone?

Fix?

Guys,

Attached is a replacement core.dll that uses WM ASF Reader filter instead of Windows Media Source (from Windows Media Player 6.5!) that was included by default.

WM ASF Reader is much less sensitive to network jitter problems and actually does recover from hiccups, i.e. it raises frame rate to where it should be as soon as possible, whereas with the old filter your only recourse was to skip back to make it re-buffer.

Just back up core.dll from your mediaportal directory and then replace it with the one from the attached zip.

Let me know if it works, I would submit it to the RC3 patch queue.

Oh yes - also using reclock (http://reclock.free.fr/) is strongly recommended to get rid of sound drops and clicks. If it says it is not supported on your hardware, just configure it to use DirectDraw instead of Direct3d in video settings.

Edit - this is for streamed wmv and asf only, sorry!

Good luck

having the same prob with divx/xvid for a while now...
using 0.2.3.0 final, but the prob was with some earlier RC's too.
sometimes comp restart can help.
