Howdy,

I have a Happauge HVR-4000 card, running on Vista Hme Prem SP1. I used the card just to watch DVB-T (Freeview HD here in New Zealand).

I want to give MediaPortal a try, especially since I hear that it will work with the remote that came with the card and PowerCinema, is doing my head in! :)

Anyway, my questions:

- If I donwload and install MediaPortal 1 RC3, do I need to download TV Server or not?

- We use ACC+ and H264 here in New Zealand. I see people talking about various codecs, do I need to install these seperately? I have the latest Vista K-Lite codec pack installed, will that suffice?

Cheers,
BuckoNZ

    Hi there,

    welcome at the community.

    YES, you need the TV-Server!
Mediaportal is a Client/Server-Solution, so you can supply a lot of clients with TV-Signal from only one Server (its namend "multiseat").
Sure, you can also have the TV-Server and Client at the same machine (singleseat).

Please, download the Mediaportal RC3 (Client and Server are in one Package) and start install.
In the installationprocess you can select "Client and Server on this machine". That's the right installationmode for you.

    good luck and enjoy

Thanks for that... one final question before I get going (famous last words around here, I'm sure)... I have an nVidia 8500GT VGA card and want to make sure that I'm using Hardware Acceleration on the card - how do I do that with MediaPortal?

I know in PowerCinema I had a "tweak" several of the sofware .INI files to make this happen.

    Cheers,

As far as I know, the Cyberlink codec is the only one that will provide you with hardware acceleration for h.264. If you've got that codec installed, choose it in Configuration as you're h.264 codec and you should be good to go as long as you've set the codec up to do hardware acceleration.

Purevideo will only give you acceleration on Mpeg-2, I believe.

How do I get a copy of that particular codec?

I'm not sure if you are 100% correct re: PureVideo and MPEG-2, as I know in PowerCinema, when I managed to get hardware acceleration enabled, the PC ran a lot better with much lower CPU usage.

Can't get HD TV picture in NZ

I have a Hauppauge HVR-3000 card, running on Vista Home Prem SP1 and I can watch Freeview HD using PowerCinema here in Auckland).

I would like to run MediaPortal so I have installed MediaPortal RC4.

When I run a scan using DVB-T, it finds all the correct channels but when I select a channel all I get is a black screen and it won't maximise.

In MediaPortal config, it shows thatwe are using the Cyberlink H.264 decoder

Any assistance would be gratefully received!!

Hi WayneS - welcome to the forum!

I suggest you start a new thread, and follow the rules for posting support request (also found as sticky):
How to start a support or bugreport thread:
    1. Choose a meaningful title for your thread.
    2. Report only one problem per thread.
    3. At the moment you start a new thread in the support forums, the hardwarespecification template will be added automatically. If the template is empty, then you have not filled out your specifications in the usercp yet.
Note: Your report MUST include a complete hardwarespecification!
    4. Add a detailed, step by step description of your problem.
    5. If your problem occurs inside MediaPortal or the configuration program, then run the "MediaPortal Logs Collector" from your Windows Start Menu (Team MediaPortal/MediaPortal) and ATTACH the exported log.zip file to your thread/post.
Without logs it is IMPOSSIBLE for us to help you!

To create clean and conclusive logs you should use the "MediaPortal Debug" shortcut which will start MediaPortal in a special debug mode. Then you reproduce the issue and close MediaPortal. A log.zip will be created automatically which you then attach to your thread/post
If you are using the TV-Server and it is installed on a different PC, then you have to attach its logs by hand.
To do that open your Windows StartMenu and click at "TV-Server Logs Folder" in Team MediaPortal/TV-Server.
Attach all these files to your thread/post.
    6. Do NOT copy/paste your logfiles (or large parts of them) in your post.
Please note that support threads, which are missing the required information posted above will not be processed and maybe also deleted.
    :D
