Good day to you all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I have been using XPMCE2005 for a couple of years now and it's ok but I've always wanted something that was more configurable. Then I heard about Media Portal and, at least in paper, it seems to be the closest to what I've been looking for. Anyway, I'm planning to build a small size rig where the OS (XP PRO SP3) will be located in a 4GB compact flash card. Its duties will be handling my pictures, CDs, DVDs, AVIs, MKVs and recording TV shows (non HD for now) to a large HDD. I've been doing research on NLite and I'm going to remove a lot of the clutter that comes with XP. Among the items that I intend to remove are WMPlayer, WPic and Fax Viewer, Internet Explorer and WMessenger. My question is does Media Portal require any of these in order to run? I'd be most happy if it doesn't since I'm not fond of much of the software Microsoft bundles with their OS.
Thank you in advance, all replies are appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

There are some thread about the "need" for WMP. If I remember correctly it is not necessary to have WMP installed unless you choose to use it for music streaming (you can use BASS instead).

But do a search as I might be wrong. (Not very likely :D)

Thank you so much for your reply. I'll look around in the forums to see what other info I can find on the subject. :D
