I have tried for weeks to make this work, and it is impossible.
It is unstable. And don't try download and install extras, it will make it crash at once.
My advice: dump it. it's a waste of time.
Try sesam tv, that is a piece of software that works.

    Hi there :)

That's a bit harsh don't you think? I am sure with a positive attitude and an optimistic approach you can discover the true potential of this brilliant MediaPortal lifestyle. For free - all you need to cough up is your time to set it up correct.

I searched for your previous posts. Problems setting up internet radio back in October.

Not a single report with proper system specs and logs to get support on your "unstable" system.

Therefore my advice is to make sure you conform to the requirements, then rather post some proper support threads and start enjoying the results. Hopefully you'll be back in a few days/weeks to thank our dedicated developers ;)

On a lighter note, the biggest problem in your setup may well be the PEBKAC problem. Lets work to eliminate that :)

    Hi Lodsbugen,

I understund your frustration. But keep im mind that there are already hundreds (tausends?) of users worldwide which use Media Portal successfully and without big problems.
I had on beginn also a lot of problems escepecially with TV Server. After this I started to read the Media Portal Forum, you can find here a lot of solutions how to solve the problems.
The software is quite stable now (Thank you MP Team for the great job!!!!) and I'm sure that with the version 1.0.1 MP will be much more stable !

sorry, as I wrote I spend weeks trying to make it work, and nothing but endless trouble.
Sesam tv is also free, and it works perfect after installation.
So until somone can show me a well working mediaportal I am not going to touch it again.

Works fine for me. Use it for sat (pointing at two sats at the moment but used to be pointing at 4), movies and music. My Logitech Harmony remote works great with this as well. Optical out to surround amp and HDMI out to TV. Sat at the moment is SD but HD was working when I had it (720p only). Movies are a combo of SD and HD.
Have it so 1080p movies only consume 8% cpu.

Using low power 4850 AMD CPU and integrated ATI graphics on MB with 2GB of ram and a $40 sat card.
All hardware and Antec fusion case was only around $550 cdn. This is not bad as the case alone was $175
So as you can see, you do not need a kick ass system to use all of the above.

Most times it comes down to hardware and video codecs and the configuration of that hardware.

You still have not posted your hardware specs or where you are having problems. Nobody can help unless you supply some info or log files from Mediaportal.

Software that has not been updated since 2006, and they have even closed the forum's, wonder why.

look good luck to you, hope your happy with what you have, as the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so lets stick to that.

    Bye

Hey mate, I understand why you are frusturated, but there's literally thousand of support threads here. MediaPortal Works awesome on my pc, the only thing that doesn't work properly is the HD Channels, (but I have other software to view the HD Channels if I really need them) but I am always searching for stuff on here to help me fix the HD problem (it stutters mainly, but the SD ones are fine)

Oh yeah you also reminded me to start posting my specs of my computer info too in my profile, so that when I do need to ask for help, at least I know they can see what I'm using. :)

I think its a matter of user interest. Some people like to tinker with software to get it working. Others just want it to 'work' and dont like the troubleshooting/problem-solving aspect. Fair enough.

Sorry you havent had any luck with MP. I think the offer of help has been pretty well extended in the posts above. MP is a great system if you have the time/ability to set it up. Not everyone has both at their disposal. If you like SesamTV and it works for you then enjoy.

There are plenty of people here with working MP (myself included), but the process wasnt without its hiccups along the way (for me, anyway).

There's a great support community here if you want to have another go and post some proper support requests.

If not, good luck to you.

I completly agree, I love MP and I love trying to fix it, it's quite a challenge :) and I enjoy it. As you say you are right some poeple want it to work right out of the box. My challenge is to somewhat get the HD channels at least viewable without the stutter in MP, but I gotta figure out if that's the issue first.

I'm a bit too timid to post a new topic about my issue until I've searched with different phrases to pull up some answers from what's been posted. :)

Good luck lodsbugen and enjoy the one you do prefer.

    Hi lodsbugen,

You really have not contributed anything to this forum at all. In fact, you've just wasted everybody's time who've actually decided to reply (including mine).

In the future, make your criticisms constructive or ask for assistance (there are so many on this forum who are very helpful) - or go and waste some other forum's time (as Ray pointed out, it won't be the SesamTV forum ....)
