I dont think this is related to MediaPortal, but I am asking in the hopes that someone has come across this (and fixed it:)).

I have a DG45, and am pushing my audio through the HDMI output to an Onkyo 705. Im using the MPA codec, with "decode to speakers" disabled (S/PDIF enabled). DD5.1 and Multichannel PCM work wonderfully. But movies with DTS play very poorly - the cut in and out quite a bit.

If I change DTS to "decode to speakers", it works, although I only get 2 channels. I did set it to use 3 front, 2 rear and LFE.

This board has been real trouble when it comes to Audio, so I just thought I would ask.

    Thanks for any pointers,

    Joe

Grab AC3Filter, i added it to post processing and it works good. ffdshow audio decoder as main codec, but MPA should work good also.

eXDee - I had tried that in the past, but could not get it to work with HDMI. But you are right, works very well with my optical S/PDIF. I was also kind of hoping to have a "minimalist" HTPC system with as few extra components on it as possible beyond MP, CoreAVC (for x264), refreshratechanger/12noon, and madflac (for my flac audio collection).

Did you get it to work with HDMI?

I use AC3 Filter via spdif to my Pioneer receiver and works like a dream. Unfortunately I am unable to test how it works via HDMI...

Yes AC3Filter works fine with HDMI. I have it process AC3 and DTS only. PCM created from madflac gets taken care by default filters just fine.

Madflac & Dolby work like a dream with HDMI, its only DTS that I am having a problem with. Tonight I will try DTS through SPDIF to see if it works well. If it does (and Madflac & Dolby still do), I guess I have a workaround.

    Thanks for the info guys,

    Joe

Followup: Made 2 discoveries today (went home at lunch, really want to figure this out :)).

    1) it is not related to HDMI. I get the exact same behavior with SPDIF as I do with HDMI.
    2) (the more important one :)). I dont have that many movies with a DTS track, so when I was testing earlier, I stupidly used the same movie for all my testing . It turns out that this is the only DTS movie that exhibits this problem (I only have 3 DTS movies).

I tried the other 2, and they both work like a champ. So DTS does indeed work on the DG45/MP combination.

What I cant figure out is that I have played this movie many times in the past and it always worked. What changed is that I am no longer using ac3filter. I cant be 100% sure, but I think it stopped working when I rebuilt the system and did not install ac3filter.

Anyway, issue solved as far as I am concerned.

One last thing I can try is to play this movie in MPC-HC and see if the sound is still messed up.

Thanks to all for your help,

    Joe
