Hello. As the title implies, I'm looking for a DirectShow filter/codec/thing that will allow me to listen to DTS HD-MA via Mediaportal. It's in the form of an M2TS file, which also contains an AVC 1080p video stream. (This is a Bluray Rip).

I have my HTPC connected to an Onkyo 705 amp via HDMI, and once it's out I plan on getting the Auzentech X-Fi Home Theater HD for my Bitstreaming needs, but for now I just need something that will output sound - any sound, even if it's just stereo LPCM - over HDMI to my amp from a DTS HD-MA source.

Anyone know where I can find this?

Thanks for that, I'll check it out. I'm currently using the shark007 codec pack for Windows 7, with X64 bits, and I'm wary of installing anything new, in case I mess that up, but it comes with ffdshow anyway, so I'm thinking I could just swap out the current version for the new. I'll have to have a look and see what I can do.

I can confirm that the latest versions of ffdshow-tryouts can play back DTS-MA, either via passthrough or decoding. Tested with the Wall-E Blu-Ray.

Just grab the latest clsid or albain build from: SourceForge.net: ffdshow tryouts: Files

(The xxl builds don't come as frequently, and I understand they are not unicode-aware).

Well, you can definitely get decoded audio from a DTS-MA stream, even if it's not full DTS-MA. That matches what you asked for in the OP. The full DTS-MA stream gets passed through S/PDIF/HDMI if you configure DTS to be passed through. It's then up to your receiver to do something useful with it.

Why don't you try it out? Remember that you will need to configure your system to actually send the sound over HDMI - this is often a reason why people don't hear any sound - it's being sent to their analog outputs.

I didn't ask for anything - I was merely commenting on your claim that FFDShow could decode and/or bitstream DTS-MA. The full DTS-MA stream can definitely not get passed through over either S/PDIF or HDMI from FFDShow. For a start you can't pass DTS-MA over S/PDIF anyway. There are no codecs or players that can bitstream DTS-MA over HDMI either due to a lack of a Protected Audio Path - the only solution is hardware in the shape of the ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 or Auzentech Auzen X-Fi HomeTheater HD HDMI (just been delayed again to the end of April).

Have a read of this very good post:

ATI Radeon HD 4600 & 4800 series support 7.1 channel HDMI audio! - AVS Forum

    Discrete Graphics Card

    - ATI Radeon HD 4350/4550/4600 Series/4800 Series

All the above solutions lack PAP (and software) hence, audio from premium contents is downsampled to 16bit/48kHz. None of them supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreaming.

    Sound Card

    - ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3
    - Auzentech Auzen X-Fi HomeTheater HD

They are the only solutions that supports full-resolution LPCM and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreaming.

Sorry - I didn't look at who was posting and mistook you for the OP. My point was not that ffdshow can decode DTS-MA, but that it can decode audio from the DTS-MA stream (DTS-core). Hence meeting the needs of the OP.

I admit I wasn't think straight when I said it could do passthrough of DTS-MA over S/PDIF - of course it can't.

Cheers guys - I did try ffdshow but must have downloaded an older build or something as I couldn't get my file to play. Ideally I'd love to get full DTS-HD MA decoding working at some point (have a 7.1 system), but for now I'll be very happy if I can just get the DTS core to play.

When the card eventually comes out, I'll be getting the Auzentech Home Theater HD, so I'll be able to bitstream all these codecs to my Onkyo 705, which will then decode and amplify them, but for now, the ultimate goal is to get everything decoded and sent out as LPCM over the HDMI connection on my ASUS motherboard.

As a slightly offtopic question, does anyone know if it's possible to bitstream AC3 and DTS over HDMI yet with any known codecs or filters? That is, without the ASUS XONAR card or the aforementioned Auzentech card?

    :D

Right - I've tried ffdshow (rev2832_20090328_clsid_x64), and I haven't managed to get it decoding the DTS-core yet. Can someone please point out to me what options I need to set, etc. to get this working? Ideally I'd like it to bitstream the DTS-core to my amp over HDMI, but I understand if that's not possible and would be happy with getting the DTS-core decoded to LPCM to send to my amp.

I've had a look through the audio configuration program but can't find the option I need.

    Thanks!

Your other option is to convert the DTS-MA to FLAC and then you will be able to play it in full quality over HDMI.

Yes you can send Dolby Digital, DTS and AC3 directly out over your HDMI connection using FFDShow.

Can you hear any streams (such as a standard stereo track) using FFDShow through your HDMI?
