Dual monitor support for fullscreen (1 Viewer)

Hi

I'm running HVR1300 with a Radion X850 platinum. Fullscreen TV won't work properly when the app is moved to the secondry monitor. It will either return to the primary monitor or it will resize to an incorrect resolution (my secondry monitor has a smaller screen resolution). Note the latest WinTV will work fine when moved to a secondry monitor.

I am assuming rightly or wrongly that this is normal behaviour of the app regardless of the system hardware.

It would be great if full dual monitor support was considered in the next release.

Also it might be fun to get the same TV channel (or different TV channels if hardware can handle it) displayed on both screens, but I am sure there are far more important things to do at the moment!

Many thanks

Alex

The only way to properly run MP full screen is to set the display that you want MP to run on as the primary display.

'Do a search as there are numerous threads about this already.

MP has been designed to run optimally by itself as a 24/7 standalone machine.

Yeah I saw some of the threads, maybe I missed some relevant ones. If that's behaviour by design that's cool, it's great software bottom line so I'm not complaining. Using a secondry monitor as a primary monitor will probably confuse some other software environments (I bet Visual Studio 2005/IE invokes would be a total pain for instance).

Still it would be great if there was an option in the config to detect or tell MP that the card has a dual monitor and let the user decide which screen it would run everything from. If that were at all possible.

Over and out.

Cheers

The OS has no problems giving full screen dx exclive access to any d3d adapter, as long as the monitor is available to windows (Things like clone mode or extended desktop make windows think there's only one head on the board). When no specific head is specified, it defaults to the primary.

It is more likely a lack of configuration possibility in mediaportal.

Dual monitor support is on top of my (personal) wishlist for one of the next MP releases.

I'm planning to buy a beamer with a 1280x720 resolution and a case with a built in touch screen that will probably have a resolution of 800x600. Due to the different resolutions, clone-modes won't work...

In my opinion it would be the best solution, if both screens show the same picture. If I only listen to some music, I can control MP with the touch screen without a need to physically turn on the beamer. If I want to watch TV, the beamer comes in quite handy with its bigger picture on the wall ;-)

If this is not possible (I don't know if direct x is available for two screens) it would also be OK to display "black" on the touch screen while the beamer is on.
In a first step manual switching between touch screen and beamer mode could be a solution. The second step would be to make this configurable like "If I go to myTV, switch touch screen off, beamer on". The third (and for me last) step would be some kind of IR-integration not only to change the output but also to switch the beamer physically on and off automatically with some kind of girder or hip functionality.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone with the same (planned) configuration?

    Cheers, Michael

I'm considering the exact same setup.

    No regular TV!
    Panasonic PT-AE900E projector
Touchscreen 7"-8" for display of interface when not wathing movies

Would be nice if mediportal could show a clone of the interface on the secondary monitor.

    Hey pcguru,

I already thought I'm the only one who wanted to have one of these great looking touch screen cases in combination with a beamer...

Is there anyone who could give some technical feedback? Is this possible at all? I did a lot of programming but never got in touch with directx, codecs or other multimedia stuff...

    Thanks, Michael

    Dual screen display

The functionality you are describing is currently acheived by the winampTV module for winamp... It might be useful to review the design of MyTV against the code for this module?? (guess it would depend on the author of winampTV)

    see: http://www.tv-plugin.com/index.php?id=5,0,0,1,0,0

I personally prefer using winamp with a remote at present rather than mediaportal for this reason. I would prefer to use mediaportal over winamp if it had this functionality.

Hm, this sounds interesting. I'll give it a try this weekend.
But it won't get me away from MP I think... Already got used to it too much :)

Anyway - no one having some technical comments on this topic?

    cheers, Michael
