DVB-S EPG not working for most of the channels (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I have some trouble with EPG over DVB-S. I re-installed MP lately (switched from Win XP to 7) and I imported all TV channels from the old installation using the export/import mechanism. Now the EPG idle grabber skips most of my relevant channels. Grabbing EPG while timeshifting works on these channels.

Please see attached epg.log. I see a lot of entries like:
2011-08-26 18:01:05.629000 [EPG Update thread(19)]: IdleEpgGrabber: no channel found for networkid:0x85 transportid:0x2 serviceid:0x107

Network ID 0x85 (133) is SKY and BetaDigital which are not configured to grab EPG. Instead, I miss EPG for stations like ZDF HD oder ProSieben. :)

Any help appreciated.

BTW: MP 1.2.0 Beta. :)

Hi,

I upgraded to 1.2 RC today, but the issue still persists.

I ran some more testing on this.

If I disable the "Grab EPG only for channels on the same transponder", I have EPG for all my channels. However, many of them show only 2 or 3 programs in advance. I know that this is because EPG is transmitted for other transponders, but not complete in that case.

If I enable this option, I only have EPG for a few of my channels. I have seen the TV Service grabbing EPG from the other stations (under "Manual Control") too, but the EPG does not appear in MP.

Full logs are attached.

Hi there.

I am always having the same issue. Last week I turned on the checkboxes for all languages and this seemed to give full EPG. But i am not really sure if this is the solution.

let us know if this helped. BTW: EPG grabbing can take a long time.

    Hi again folks

In many cases the providers will broadcast full EPG for the channels on the transponder, and only now + next for their other channels on different transponders. In those cases, to get full EPG for all channels you *must* disable "grab EPG only for channels on the same transponder" so that MP seeks the full EPG for all channels rather than being satisfied with now/next information. If there is a particular transponder that provides EPG info for all channels then you should enable grabbing only for that transponder and enable "grab EPG only for channels on the same transponder".

I think grabbing for all languages is okay as long as the EPG is only in one language - you would be guaranteed to get all EPG that is available. However, if the EPG is provided in two different languages then you need to make sure that you select the correct languages.

    Interresting. But let me explain.

I am not a great poster, and on the rare occasion that I did, I brought this issue up. In my opinion there should be 3 options (obliged) to choose from: do you want (1) no EPG (2) now/next or (3) full EPG.
You explain it in a good way how one should use it, but the config should be simpler. It's 18 months I'm trying to get things right and everytime I think things are fine something goes wrong and EPG is gone.

Yes I turn on every language because if you don't there is no EPG with CBS action and NHK world and Renault tv for example.
Though their EPG is written in English they seem to be marked as another language. And I don't think an average user should be sifting logs for such things.

Imho all languages could be on and if there is an unwanted one just uncheck it. When I come to think about it: why don't you turn on EPG all the time? It was only when I first got EPG I realised how powerfull Mepo was...

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Dan

I *definitely* agree that some things about the EPG grabber configuration are not intuitive, and the grabber itself can cause major stability problems at times. It would be quite difficult to create an interface that allows selection of none, now/next, or full for all channels. Of course most people want full EPG for all channels. The difficulty is in finding out how to do that for each provider.

I can't actually use the EPG Grabber for my EPG because my EPG is buried in MHEG 5 data. I use other [free :)] software called EPG Collector to get the EPG in XMLTV format, and then I import it into TV Server with the XMLTV plugin. I mention this other software because it has the ability to "find" EPG data - in other words, you scan and it tells you the formats (EIT, MHEG, Freesat, ATSC PSIP, MHW 1, MHW 2 etc.) that are available, and for EIT whether it is full or just now/next. Really fantastic! Maybe it can help you...

Anyhow, that approach is the approach I would like to see in TV Server. It just requires more work. If not done correctly then it will add more complication in the user interface which would be bad. I'd like to do it, but do it in a way that is really useful and understandable.

    Hi MM,

I did not realise what a fine mess all these "standards" mean for developpers. I will check out this EPG collector. Thanks for the tip. i hope you guys find a solution and make the EPG section intuitive for guys like me.

    Thanks
    Dan
