Synopsis:
I'm a newbie when it comes to MP. I'm having problems when playing dvds and movies. It's as if the built in player does not manage to update the image fast enough or as if there are severe timing problems. The frames seems to flow at the correct speed (no jerkiness) but the switch between frames is not up to par when there are many things happening on the screen at once and you can see a number of kind of jagged line patterns across the screen.

I'm using nVidia Pure Video decoder since it gives me by far the best quality. It does not seem to matter which decoder I choose or if I use ffdshow post processing or not (does not seem to work with Pure Video though, MP freezes up when I try it). I have deactivated timeshift to reduce the probability of performance issues. This problem only appears in the built-in player in MP. If I try WMP, PowerDVD or the MCE player (I guess that's WMP too) there are no problems but the picture quality is not as good since I can't get those programmes to use the Pure Video decoder. It would also be much nicer to user the built-in player.

Can anyone help me to address this annoying problem? I haven't found anything through the search engine.

Try enabling "Use Exclusive DirectX Mode for fullscreen tv/video" in configuration.exe.

Thanks! Now the problem is gone. However, I've now got a 3 pixels high flickering white line at the bottom but I think that has something to do with the graphics drivers. The flickering line is there when using WMP too.

Hi

Is this another frustrated MCE convert.

Welcome

:D

Well, kind of. I was actually looking at GBPVR but needed an XP OS so I thought I might as well get the MCE version. At least I would have a fallback solution if GBPVR didn't work out. However, it turned out that GBPVR could not handle encoded DVB-T channels. Since MCE is a bit too "ready-made" for me I never intended it to be more than a fallback solution. Now Media Portal has turned out to be my primary front end. I'm new to the HTPC world and I'm just taking my first stumbling steps. :)

Thanks for the welcome!

Hey, this is my first post people, so go easy ;)
In my case, disabling this option, fixed the jaggies and lines on the screen during fast motion..... go figure huh

BTW... Im using an ati radeon 9800 pro with the latest catlalyst drivers installed, for those programer boffins who may be interested :)
