I have a DVD drive that is unlocked (region-free) and I own DVDs from regions 1 and 2. They all play just fine in VLC, MPC-HC, MPlayer etc, but not in MediaPortal. I just get the normal blue MediaPortal screen and then nothing happens. If I eject the disc then MP goes back to the main menu. I assume the issue is that the DVD playback is tied to Windows Media Player, and WMP implements software-based region checking? I've read a few posts on here about people using AnyDVD (or some equivalent software) but that seems ridiculous since my DVDs play fine with the "correct" software.

So the question, am I out of luck? Is there nothing that can be done, or can I integrate a different DVD player? (I've seen some settings about it I think). This is a major showstopper for me, because it's one of the reasons I converted my desktop PC into a dedicated HTPC.

Help!
