DVD Region Problem (1 Viewer)

I don't often use MP to play DVDs in the DVD drive...usually ripped movies to my HD. However I am having a problem with any Region encoded DVDs in MP. I have the proper region set on my drive and I do not have any problem playing DVDs with MS Media Player, WinDVD, or VLC....But if I try in MP it either hangs or with other DVDs it says the DVD will not play in my region.

If I play a DVD with no region coded I have no problem. I even tried DVD43 but it still yells about the region or hangs depending on the DVD.

Anyone else???

Use AnyDVD, it works great also good in combination with CopyDVD for ripping and burning.

Isn't AnyDVD roughly the same as DVD43, only free? That is my understanding. In any case, DVD43 works with any other product and since my region actually is correct I have to imagine that's the reason that doesn't help my situation.

Why would MP be the only player that "thinks" there is a region problem??

yeah, I use DVD43 and it's great (and free).

The other thing is that since decoding DVD (or CSS I think) is licensed, then the MPV and Dscaler codecs cannot handle DVD's.
See if things are improved if you use a commercial codec for your decoding. PowerDVD for example.

Thanks for the idea...I've tried several codecs including PowerDVD and WinDVD. Still the exact same problem.

It's starting to bother me that I seem to be the only one who has seent this. Perhaps is has to do with 2.3.0 I may have to do an install with 2.2.0 to a separate directory to see if I experience the same problem. I assume I can install the different versions along side each other.

FYI...after doing a "reinstall" on top of my existing install it still woundn't play my region encoded disks. I finally did a complete un-install and installed 2.3.0 from scratch. Now all DVDs are playing!
