[Original Post Edited after a bit of research and trying out different things with MP]

Basically - it seems that the Automatic Matching facility when doing a scan of films (DVD Video-TS folders in my case) does not bring back the correct film.

If the Automatic Matching is unchecked, then the correct film is always at the top of the list of films returned - so it does know which film it should choose.

The films are named exactly after the IMDB entry - with the year and if required "(TV)" after them.

It seems to work 80% of the time.

    Some Examples that dont work:

    X-Men 2, comes back as X-Men
"Sharpe's Waterloo (1997) (TV)" comes back as "Harry's Waterloo (1914)"

Any ideas? or is the matching not that great?

As i'll be ripping a couple of hundered DVDs I do not want to have to manually fix loads of them each time the movie database is rebuilt (reinstall etc). So i'd like to have it such that scanning the DVD folder names brings back the exact match each time.

Right - well I've done some trial an error with the naming, such as removing the ' and adding dates, and using I II III IV etc instead of numbers.

Still, it seems odd that when not automatically checking the right film is always at the top, but when automatic it doesnt seem to chose that one!

If it exists on imdb, i cut'n'paste there name to the file, including year, usually works, occasionally get the not allowed in filename error with windows, but just tell it to ignore.
Are you using the imdb_com script, as thats a lot better than the internal one.

    Cheers

I think it's because the names had a ' in them. Even though they did on IMDB, it seems MediaPortal removed them, and that messed it up.

With copy & paste of IMDB it works better - but I still think that the automatic matching should match to the item at the top of the list in non-automatic matching!

I think that's what gamejester is working on, really annoying i admit when the very first film found is a exact match and the one you want, and it still produces prompt :(

Well what i've ended up doing now is scanning the database ever 10 or so DVDs I rip on a test machine and then I go back rename/rescan until it all matches perfectly.
