Just setup MediaPortal, seems to run ok if I don't mess around much (too much ff or rew and it pukes). One thing I'd like to know: Is it possible to record in .dvr-ms format instead of .ts? Only reason I as is that I have a MCE 2005 htpc on the network and it can't play the .ts files from within MCE 2005.

btw- my main reason for setting up Media Portal is to be able to use the ATSC OTA tuner to record while my MCE 2005 HTPC's ATSC OTA tuner is busy doing other things... no more free pci slots or I'd just move the tuner the MCE 2005 pc and quit right there.

If you are using TVE3 then its not possible (and dvr-ms support wont be added in the future). Older build in TV engine will record in .dvr-ms format.

I have to investigate whether or not I'm using TVE3. Don't know the software well enough yet to say offhand... looks some type of EPG grabber - so my initial guess is that I'm NOT using it - I went through a few hours of messing around with xmltv before I could get that to work. During that process the only EPG related thing I found was an apparent ability to download OTA EPG data. I was unable to get that to work at all... seemed to take about an hour just to finish downloading!

Okay, so now I get it... TVE3 is an alternate name for TV-Server, so yes I am using it. I was able to get MCE to play .ts files by installing DVBPortal HDTVpump, but cannot ff or rew at all, so I'd still like to use the dvr-ms format. What version of MediaPortal records to .dvr-ms format and where can I find it?

Why not do the opposite and switch your recording format to mpg?
This way, your MCE setup should be able to read it.

Good idea, but I tried that first. The .mpg files that are created are unusable. Choppy video and audio on both the MCE pc and the MediaPortal pc. Right next to the drop down to select .mpg as an output it says to us .ts if .mpg is a problem.
