I am fairly new to MP and I started trying this because I couldn't get HD content playback right in VMC. I have done a lot of reading here, so don't flame me (yet)
I have read the posts here about standalone filters, DVXA playback etc., but still I'm not getting it to work. I am at a point that I have so many threads that i simply don't know what to install and setup any more. So I hope someone can help me get my bearings again
Again, I have read an aweful lot of post about this, so don't think I have not put in any effort to find out myself.
I have the (in)fammous Gigabyte GA-GM780 mobo with the onboard ATI 3200. I have installed Vista 32bit. So far nothing strange I think.
My first attempts with HA are from my trial days with Vista MC. I started with a clean install, nothing else on there. i then installed the matroska splitter. Then i installed MPC-HC. I set-up MPC-HC using this guide Watching h.264 videos using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA). My collection of short anime reviews
This works out great. HA is working perfectly for 1080p mkv files. Only 5% cpu usage. However, it's only INSIDE mpc-hc.
In the post on this forum about standalone decoders, I saw that there is also a standalone version of this codec https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/offtopic-57/stand-alone-filters-htpc-44614/). I registered this codec (MPCvideoDEC.ax) so it was available inside MP config. I selected it and started to playback the exact same 1080p mkv file. Now my cpu usage is 30-40% and HA is not working.
I fail to understand what the difference is between MPC-HC and the standalone version. Obviously, in mpc-hc in can set up everything (EVR), but i can't do this for the standalone version in MP. At least, I haven't found any place where to edit settings.
Is there any place where i can setup this EVR stuff inside MP or in this standalone decoder? Or is my workflow so far not right yet?
Workflow:
Clean install vista 32b
latest drivers gigabyte website
matroska splitter
media player classic HC (HA working at this point)
standalone MPC decoder (registered)
MP install (select the mpc decoder)
Feel free to tell me what to do
