As a long-term user I stumbled across this when a local broadcaster changed their RF number. Specifically they had been on RF-49 and moved to RF-48. This is a simple adjustment made by editing the TV Channel, right? YES, it should be and I did this several years back when RF-59 moved to RF-19... a simple change and hit OK. Not so this time. When I attempted to save the change I got a pop-up saying I had an invalid frequency! This was a new error for me and I thought I should call it to your attention. Interestingly enough I wasn't editing that field, instead the RF field and, the values in the editable window do not list frequency values (even after scanning) but the "checking" that's done (when I hit the OK button) keep me from continuing. As for me, I had to reperform a full ATSC scan to detect the new RF-48 station.

This may be unique to ATSC tuning therefore not many folks are speaking of it. And, you have to be somewhat fluent in MediaPortal because it doesn't show itself during a normal scan or use of the TV Channels... it's a mismatch someplace that's been changed - maybe when they rewrote the scan code?

YES, I know it would be helpful to attach logs and screen-shots... my daughter is using the system now - I'll post details in an update. Just thought I'd mention this while it was on my mind.

Glad to help and thank YOU for acknowledging even before I attached any hard evidence -- screen-prints, logs. Like I said, it's a bit of a nuisance but not a show-stopper. I'm looking out for those novice users who would just get frustrated and leave MediaPortal if it doesn't work right...

Yes I just ran into this problem. I went in to switch my channel numbers around when I noticed it would not let me save. I had to delete all my channels and then rescan them.

Until this is fixed I will have to disable the displaying of channel numbers until this is fixed.

Hi. I am a relative noobie to MePo, but I have the newer version 1.2.3.0 installed.

This bug, it seems, was not addressed.

Further, the Add or Edit a Channel Wiki never talks about how to find the data required to enable saving anything.
    • Where do I find the Frequency information?
    • What Modulation should I use? [ Not Set, 8 VSB, 64 QAM, 256 QAM ]
    • What is the Network ID?
    • What is the Transponder ID?
    • What is the Service ID?
    • What is the PMT PID?
    • Where do I find the Provider?
It would be really nice if someone could update the Add or Edit a Channel Wiki.

In MePo 1.2.3, the "frequency -1" bug in mantis prevents you from changing/saving the US ATSC tuning details. But these fields are set when you scanned the channels and a "user" including me should not need to modify any of these fields. I can explain what is in some but not all of the fields

Channel = 7, is the actual Physical/RF TV channel transmitted by this station. In this case VHF channel 7
Frequency = -1, Not sure what this does but for US ATSC this is always = -1
Major = 7 and Minor = 1 is the ATSC major and minor channel numbers. On a TV this would be channel 7.1
Modulation = 8 VSB is the name of the way ATSC TV bits are sent over the air. for US cable this would be QAM.
Not sure what the other fields are used for, but you should need to modify any of this info.

If you are using MePo 1.2.3 your best option for channel numbers is to enable "select by index" and "show channel numbers". This will shows channel numbers 1 to N in your EPG TV guide. See the following in wiki
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/141_Configuration/MediaPortal_Configuration/22_TV

in MePo, I typically do not change channels by channel numbers and either go to the TV guide to select the channel I want to watch, or if I'm watching a show open the mini-guide by doing a mouse "double left click" or pressing "ok" on the remote.

In MePo 1.3.0beta, there is an option to set your own channel numbers in "Edit Channel". See picture I uploaded. I use 4 digits for channel numbers so I can have the ATSC Major.Minor channels. In this example KTVU-HD 2.1 = 1021. In the ATSC Tuningdetail this is PhysicalChan = 44, Major = 2, Minor = 1 but I don't touch/change any of these fields. You can change the Name and ChannelNumber fields in "Edit Channel". I did this for the channels I enabled in the EPG but most of the time I still change channels using the EPG or mini-guide.

Thought I'd give a big THUMBS-UP to MM on this -- the problem I expressed is now been fixed! I can go into the channel edit menu and alter the RF value and successfully save the data. As far as the previous poster integrating a schema to use 4-digit values as his channel numbers that's totally on him. I simply use those assigned by the local braodcaster, which for me are xx.y in most cases.

    THANKS MM :)

    Andrew,

What MePo version are you using? On MePo 1.3.0beta, I just tried doing a "edit channel", entering 2.1, 2-1, or 2*1 in the channel number field and I always get a "please enter a valid channel number!" error message when I press ok to save my changes. Curious how you entered xx.y. My MCE remote does not have a "." or "-" button so I was trying to use the "*" button. I get an error when I use anything other than numbers 0-9 in the channel number field.

Sorry to have misled you. This thread was written because there was a time you couldn't change anything in the edit channel popup. That has been addressed and I can now edit the data without having to perform a rescan of the ATSC channels thus allowing MP to populate the data.

As far as your using a 4-digit channel numbering schema, is along the lines of what some cable companies are doing - placing a 1 before the base number. As you said 1021 is your 2.1 and I would conclude 1446 would be your channel 44.6 (leaving only subchannels 0-9 available). In fact, I suppress my channel numbers in the TVGuide because MP chooses to use the RF value rather than the traditional number the station uses. I assign the station's call sign and suffix (or it's gathered upon a rescan) to differentiate the channels (e.g. WHNT-HD, WHNT-SD, WHIQ-HD, WHIQ-IQ, WHIQ-D2, WAAY-HD) in my guide although I use the second TAB and arrange the channels in the order I want them displayed in the guide which for me is (hidden) numeric (e.g. 19.1, 19.2, 25.1, 25.2, 25.3, 31.1). I have never attempted to direct-enter my channels as you apparently do. (BTW, I seem to recall the Hauppauge remote does have a 'dash' character.) Instead I hit the ENTER (OK) button inside LiveTV to popup a mini guide from which I can navigate on my remote, or the BACK which brings me back to the Guide, or the RIGHT-Click which opens a menu with TV-Guide as the 1st entry. Also, I can scroll the channel up/down button to get to any channel... Sorry for being long-winded, but direct entry isn't something I've considered necessary. One more thing, I also use the broadcasters logos thus seeing their number and/or network affiliate in the guide as well helps.
