Hello all,

MP has some predefined aspect ratios and they probably suffice in most cases. But I'm using a somewhat exotic setup with a projector and an anamorphic lens.
Now, I can adjust for the squeezing of the lens by using the screen setup function in MP, so circles look round and all. But when I watch a movie in cinemascopic format, it doesn't entirely fill my screen. That's because my screen is something like 2.35 to 1 and lots of movies are 2.40 to 1.
So I want to zoom in a little bit. Is there a way to do this in MP?

Previously I used a combination of Meedio and TheaterTek and in TheaterTek you have complete control over aspect ratios.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts...

The lack of replies leads me to believe this isn't possible..

Is there a dedicated place for feature requests?

I asked this question about a year ago myself and was told it couldn't be done in MP. I also used to use Meedio and made custom aspect ratios through it with VLC. You can request the feature...but I think as far as MP 1 goes, there will be no new feature adds and only bug fixes. MP 2 will be the next great thing.

One solution might be to use an external player in MP (there is an option for it) and just use TheaterTek. Have you tried that?

Setting aspect ratio = normal will automatically zoom the picture enough so the edge touches the edge of the screen, if it doesn't then you either have overscan problems or lack 1:1 pixel matching, or havnt calibrated your screen properly.

If you can't fix within MP i recommend MPC-HC external player (use the keypad to zoom/strech)

Yes, but this doesn't work for mkvs that have the original blu-ray videostream muxed in, since the black bars above and below the image are part of the image.
In this case, MP fills the screen until the sides of the image touch the edge of the screen, but then I still have very small black bars above and below the image...

    i havnt tried them myself.

your problem really lies in the fact that these are crappy rips of bluray and they should be ripped without black bars.

you should check out MPC-HC (stand alone app, no formal installation required) and have a play with the numpad keys while video is full screen (press 9 to zoom/crop and 6/8 to stretch vertical/horzizontal, press 1 to reduce zoom/crop, and 2/4 to reduce stretching)

The only way to get rid of the black bars in the videos is to reencode the video, which I don't want.
If the plugins don't work out, using an external player may be the only choice for me, or accept black bars...
