I'm not sure if WebEPG is supposed to be able to grab US Cable TV channels or not, but I've had no luck. I've imported channels from media portal and then tried automapping; that gave me about 5-10 correct channel mappings (I think I'm not home to verify the channels are correct). Is there a better way of going about this? I've been through the manual, forums, and google trying to figure out how to get TV Guide in some form in Media Portal but have had no luck :(

Can someone give me some direction on this?

Best thing to do is select like 5 or so channels save them. then hit webepg.exe in the mediaportal folder, it will NOT return anything, but wait like 5-10 minutes and then start TV-Server configurations >> Plugins >> enable xmltv (or something) and go configure the plugin.

When u configure the plugin u gotta set the path of the .xml file containing the grabbed channel info.
if you are on Vista its located at: C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\Mediaportal\xmltv
For Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\mediaportal\xmltv
Then hit import on the bottom, then on top at map channels hit refresh and save, then back to import again. See if it actually manages to import program data, if not then the grabber file is outdated and need to be updated.

Report back :p

As usual, I'll jump in and make a plug for Schedules Direct for US/Canadian listings. No, it's not free. It's $15/year for the service. But the Schedules Direct plugin is soooo much easier than trying to get xmltv to work.

Search the forum for "schedules direct". The service (Schedules Direct) is available for a free 7 day trial if you want to experiment.

This is what I use for my Guide, it works great!

I use the zap2xml program in conjunction with the XMLTV plugin. I followed the below to get it working…

First, follow the directions from the site zap2xml to get a
zap2it account and get the listings to show the 6 hour grid, and then download
the windows binary from the site, then execute it so it extracts the file, and
take this file, zap2xml.exe, and put it in the media portal xmltv folder, then
go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>scheduled tasks, and add a new
task for it using the "add a task" wizard, which should walk you through most
of it. When it asks you for the program you want to run, click browse and go to
file you put in the xmltv folder. Set it up to run however often you want your
guide to be updated. After it is set up, right click the new task you just created,
click properties, and make sure you are in the "task" tab, then where it says run,
it will have the location of the directory that you selected, add the following to
the very end of it, after the zap2xml.exe part:
-u YOURZAP2ITLOGIN@EMAIL.COM -p YOURPASSWORD -o tvguide.xml , Replacing the
capitalized letters with the appropriate login and password for zap2it, and when
the schedule executes, your tvguide data should be populated. You may need to set
time zone info in the media portal setup, and media portal may not instantly
update the time zone info. I think that about covers it.

Then the only thing I had to do was create the xmltv.dtd file from a blank txt file (it’s empty) and everything works well.

To go in to more detail, in “C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\xmltv” I have the below. Xmltvmap.xml was created automatically after I mapped my channels.

Then I have a scheduled job that runs the zap2xml.exe with the proper options. ("C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\xmltv\zap2xml.exe" -u username@email.com -p password -o tvguide.xml)
attachment.php

And my XMLTV plugin (included with MP TV Server) is setup like this…

Hope this helps, if you want to PM me for more information I'll be happy to help out.
